Futaba CB701 E-Buggy
 

Is anyone running a CB700 or CB701 in their 1/8 scale e-buggies and NOT running a receiver pack? I'd like to try the 701 but I'm hesitant due to Futaba being adamant that they not be used with a BEC. I could get creative but there's certainly not much room for a receiver pack on these 1/8 scale electric buggies. I'll likely be running an XR8 Pro or Plus which have fairly robust internal BEC's.

If anyone is running this servo on a BEC with success, please let me know!

That is a big powerful servo and will require a very high current. I don't know how many amps but Futaba feel it is too much for the BEC in the esc. They also say you can't use it with dry batteries due to its high current.

The drawn current is no steady given value, it is depending of how much power it needs to provide. While they can provide up to 40kg force a Buggy will do well with a 12kg power servo.
Beside that ESC's for 1/8 scale use already have higher current rated BEC's

Yup, it's a powerful servo for sure, and Futaba tends to be relatively accurate in their stated specs. I run their CT701 low-profile with an XR10 without issue, and it too has warnings about BEC use. That said, the CB701 likely pulls a significant amount more current when under heavy load. Perhaps it's best suited to nitro setups where a receiver pack is standard.

Right, and I'm not a racer (yet), so won't be too hard on electronics. It's more torque than I need for sure, but I'm a 10PX user so it's nice to run Futaba servos in my nicer builds. I run the CT702 with success (off the HW BEC) but I'm not keen on running a low-profile servo in a 1/8 buggy.

i run futaba cb700/ cb701/ct701 servos in all my cars all off the hobby wing xr10 and xr8 pro/plus bec ESC and have never had a problem. I run it with my 10px and all set to 7.4 bec voltage

Perfect. I just ordered an XR8 Plus G2S this morning so it sounds like I'll likely be good to go. I appreciate it.

I have a CT701 sitting here for my 1/10 stuff - have you ever tried that in a 1/8 scale electric? The specs seem more than ample, but I'm always hesitant about a low-profile servo in a larger buggy. I'll likely order the CB701 from overseas to save some $, and it would be nice to have something to toy with while I wait for it to arrive.

yes I have used the ct700/ct701 on 1/8 buggies. And the low profile ct700/701 have more torque and speed than most full size servos.
