Need help finding replacement contro;

New member here and need assistance. I am helping my grandson get his RC off road Tonka vehicle up and running. The remote control has gone missing and I need a replacement. The local shop cannot help. Are there universal remotes? DO I need a specific model, etc.? Any advice is appreciated. Many thanks in advance.
BTW - if this is the incorrect forum, please advise and or move.

Regards,

Regards,

Your best bet would be to check all the local adds, like Facebook, Craigslist, and eBay. See if someone is selling a broken RC with the same remote. Tonka, and the other toy brand RC's, only use 2 to 3 different frequencies (MHZ). See what yours is and go from there. You can upgrade to an aftermarket system, but that will cost more than the car is worth.

Did you try to contact Tonka directly? Home | BasicFun!
Problem is that these toys do not use a universal system so you have to get the specific controler.

If we want to look with you it would be nice to give more specific data of the model. Most of the time you can find something on the under side of the car.

Thank you all for the swift answers and advice. Let me do more research and I will post additional info.

I do not know the exact model. I believe it was called Ricochet It is dated 2009. I think. The battery is good. It has a CE 0979on the front axle. It is 27 MHz. I am not allowed pics yet.
Thank you all.
Regards

The pictures are on my photos/album. I do not see a private or public view icon. Suggestions? Thank you.\

Yes, that is the one I (my grandson) have. If you or anyone can suggest where I can find a remote for it, I would appreciate it. Regards.

The original remote is the only one that will work for the car as the remote is bound to the electronics in the car. If you do happen to find a remote you will have to have the matching electronics.

Please define matching electronics to a neophyte like me. I do not understand.
Regards.

You said it has a 27MHz frequency. There are 6 channels on the 27MHz band reserved for the use of RC. Normal RC equipment have exchangeable crystals to change the frequency, most toys like rated RC not.
Then most toys use just switching on/of controls, not analog. Analog is also called proportional that the more advanced RC stuf use.

Thank you. I am assuming that a remote control that has a 27 MHz frequency will work. I appreciate the guidance.

Yes but you have to find one with the same channel as the cars receiver.

Derosa@54 09-09-2024 07:46 AM

Again, thank you all.

As an FYI - I bought a remote control from Amazon that I thought would work. Well. It came in and parts were missing and it did not connect. I contacted Amazon and it said keep it and it will refund my money. I contacted Hasbro via email and have not had any response. Oh, well. I will keep searching.

Again thank you.

As mentioned before these guys are the owners of Tonka Home | BasicFun!

Derosa@54 09-18-2024 01:06 PM

I contacted them and to my regret I was told that they do not supply parts for items that were made prior to their purchase of Tonka (2020).
Thanks you for the suggestion.
