Lipo batteries
 

I usually charge my batteries the night before I go to the track. I didn't end up going today but will go tomorrow. Is it OK to leave the batteries charged until I go to the track tomorrow ???

LiPos don't like to stay fully charged (or discharged) for long. I have never tested how long they can take it - and honestly, other people telling me "it'll be fine, I do it all the time for X amount of time" are not reassuring to me either. Who says I'll be as lucky as them? And if I screw my batteries up, it's my money, not theirs.

So, personally I never charge more than an hour so in advance of using them (and mostly actually just before use) and I either put them to storage voltage while I'm still at the track before packing up my stuff (most of the time) or immediately after I get home (rarely), at the latest. Am I overly cautious? Maybe. But better safe than sorry, and I like to use and enjoy my batteries for a while. If you like buying new ones every couple of months, you don't need to worry as much. Still, always remember, be careless with LiPos and you may end up with your house on fire.

Ultimately you need to decide for yourself.

For a few days it does not matter, the issue can start to play with several weeks to several months.

I’ve been curious about this. When it come to my car batteries I tend to do charge day of. But for airsoft I charge day before and I don’t always use all my batteries which leaves a battery or two fully charged. And I usually forget to discharge them for a few days. So far I’ve had no issues.

Is no longer than a few days safe to say that it does no harm?

It's not a simple case of harm vs no harm. Leaving it charged for any length of time harms it to some degree. The longer you leave it, the more you reduce the life of the pack.

Also dont forget how the batteries are being used.

For RC racing, we want the lowest internal resistance possible. Gives more power during a race. We have chargers that track the IR so you can monitor the health of the battery. I note how much capacity and IR my batteries have when new and every few months. Its important.

For air soft or non racing hobbies you just want power in the batteries and most applications dont use that much amps. It doesn't matter nearly as much that storing at 100% capacity harms IR and all the other things discussed. It still happens though its less noticeable.
