Lipo Question

I've got several lipos that's been in my shop in a fireproof charging bag for a few years. I haven't ran any of my cars in this time. Would these be ok to use and or how do I know that they are ok? Some of them are hardcase so not sure how to tell if cells are puffed. Also the stickers has worn off of some and I'm not sure if they are 2s or 3s batteries. I need some help on this???

They might not be good, There's that white little plug. Plug that into the charger and see what they read. If they don't read anything it' dead . You want them to be above 3 V. Per cell You could storage charge them and then check them every 3 months when you get new ones.

i stop racing and have not used my lipos in 2020. I just started racing again a few months ago and all my lipos did not loose any voltage. they were all storage at 3.85 volts per cell and they were still at 3.85 volts 3 years later. They all still work perfectly fine

As long as there's no physical damage - swelled packs, and if the voltage is anywhere between 3.75-3.85 volts/cell, you'll be okay.

So will the hard case packs swell up? I know soft case you can see them if puffed or swelled but wasn't sure about the hard case

Yes, they will swell up, too. Those hard cases aren't all that thick and sturdy.

Answered the same question on a cross post over here:

Only way to know for sure is to check the IR of the cells.

There's a possibility they might not be in optimal condition. Look for a small white plug; connect it to the charger and check the readings. If there's no response, it might be dead. Ideally, you want each cell to be above 3 volts. Consider storage charging them and periodically checking every three months, especially when acquiring new ones.

They'll swell if they're not kept in good condition. It won't be as pronounced as with a soft case, and if they're swelled enough, the case will crack.
