See no reason to upgrade yet.

There are people driving real cars from 1998 just fine. If it works, it works.

Depends greatly on your budget. Futaba and Sanwa are obviously the most popular at the racing scene. However, other good brands are Flysky, KO Propo, and Spektrum are also brands that are highly capable. I have a lot of RC cars, so I wanted a transmitter that could be programmed to multiple cars. Futaba and Sanwa receivers are close to $80 each. I ended up getting Spektrum due to receivers costing less than $25. I have a few friends that have Flysky and they honestly love it. Receivers for that brand are less than $15. I know some are faster than others, but if your running in the stock class, you probably won't notice a difference. If your in modified class, then you might want a really fast unit.

Thanks all you guys for your opinions and input. As far as the budget question; since I am not actively competing and more for just playing around with, I would like something decent and dependable but I really have no need for all the bells and whistles. I would also like something that has lower priced receivers as well. If I ever start racing, I would then get deeper into the finer points of a high end radio setup. I cannot even find a 1/12 on road track near my area right now.

Flysky Noble, Radiolink RC8X comparison:

Sanwa MX-6, Spektrum DX5C, Futaba 3PV:

I think that pretty much covers everything in the mid-lower range.

Definitely go Flysky. You won't be disappointed.

If you come from the plane world are you familiar with OpenTx? Radiomaster just announced a Edgetx (opentx fork) surface radio. $130. a lot of features. very good performance.
