Sanwa MT-4 High Latency/Delay in inputs
A while ago a club member drove my car and pointed out that there was a noticable delay in my brakes and throttle, i hadn't noticed myself yet but after driving some other people cars i can see what they mean.
I had gotten used to it but is is starting to anoy me greatly, on fast corners i'm always too early or too late on the brakes, it's impossible to drive consistently. Is the MT-4 known for this issue or are there perhaps some settings i need to change/disable? It's paired with a ORCA BP1001, 13,5 motor, HD Power D12 servo and powered by a 8000A Sunpadow lipo. |
Are you using SSR mode on the throttle channel? If not then there is your answer.

And yet, this ESC does support SSR. (with later versions of the firmware)
But if the channel is just set to work with analogue servo's you will already get a huge latency. |

If SSR really did make that much of a difference, all half decent ESCs would have supported it years ago. In reality, SSR and SHR have the same PPM frequency and therefore the same average latency. You really need to get into SUR before you get any measurable latency improvements. NOR mode only adds a few ms of additional latency, it really is negligible.
I did take a look in the manual and in the settings but i don't seem to be able to change anything of the sort, no mention of SSR whatsoever. Could the difference that i felt just be the M17 having a lower latency? Or is that difference negligible aswell? |

Are these modes something i can change arround in the sender, or are these just fancy acronyms for different protocols newer senders use?

The M17 will technically be marginally faster but not to the point where you'll notice it like you are. |

They're something you can change in the radio settings. They're in the bind menu on the M17, not sure about the MT-4

The settings were indeed in the bind menu, set steering to SSR and throttle to SHR and the car now actually brakes on command. However if i change throttle to SSR aswell it just stops working, i suppose our software doesn't support it. Glad i can finally drive consistent though! :D |
I did look up the product data and in the update history there is a talk about SSR support but basically the framerate is the same as SHR but with a shorter pulse giving a lower (1msec) latency.
