Specification for the binding protocol?
 
Does anyone have a specification for the binding protocol, let so the codes on the pulse's (although any info there would be helpful too) but more so the procedure the binding process goes through?

You have to be more specific. When we are talking about electronics and binding then it is the process of connecting a receiver to the transmitter.
Every brand has its own way as with different protocols of one brand also different methodes.

Hi Roelof, so I'd like to build my own universal hand controller for 2.4ghz, I could be wrong but it seems like I can buy any hand controller and bind it to my RC car. So I got the feeling that the binding protocol would follow a standard binding process, or would I be wrong and is this brand specific?

I was thinking the steps might be something like:
1) Connect Wifi - Pair the devices when the bind button or jumper is put in place for both the transmitter and the receiver.
2.) And then perhaps the control signals are shared via a data communication over the wireless signal, weather they are byte level pulses or data level communication to something like API? I don't know.
3) Confirmation of understanding / error checking.

Of course this is over simplified.

Any help in the right direction would be great.

Or maybe it works the same as the 27Mhz receivers/transmitters and the binding just sets a specific frequency? And the pulse sequence is what is standardised for the commands?

Every brand and even within a brand every protocol has their own protocol. This is to prevent people will buy cheaper receivers but also to prevent binding the wrong receiver or protocol.
So no, you can not bind everything.

To go further in depth beside the binding. Basically there are 2 type of transmission systems DSSS and FHSS.
- DSSS is where the receiver and transmitter chose a free channel to stay on
- FHSS is where the transmitter and reciever hop from frequency to frequency (like cellular phones)
Also this is why you can not bind everything.

A common mistake is that most RC stuff works on FHSS and so any FHSS receiver should work on any FHSS transmitter but that is wrong. It is a way of transmission, it does not say what language is transmitted and every brand has its own language.

Forget the binding protocol for a moment. The communications protocol itself is proprietary between brands, and are often incompatible between different models in the same brand. Not sure where you got the idea that you can buy any hand controller, you can't.

WiFi is not involved at all. RC radios don't use WiFi. You're not going to be able to build a universal controller.
