Electronics for B6.4 Build
 

Building my first indoor race buggy , looking for some good electronics to put in that can compete. Also a good transmitter .

You can't go wrong with a Hobby Wing XR10 Stock Spec or Pro. As far as motors, the HW motors are a solid choice. The Trinity Slot Machine is also a good performer.

For transmitters, I strongly suggest either Sanwa or Futaba. Something like the Sanwa MT-R or the Futaba 4PM would be a decent choice. The Sanwa MT-5 is a great choice as well - it has almost the same programming features as the M17 but doesn't have as many ergonomic adjustments. If you can live with that, you basically have an M17 at a discount price!

Full race:

• HW XR10 Pro ESC
• Trinity Slot Machine or Fantom Icon or R1 Wurks motors (they each have "team" editions as options too)
• Lots of good servo options here but I see most people run Protek 160TBLs
• Protek LCG 4800 is my go-to battery, but lots of brands make a similar version
• Sanwa M17 radio

Competitive - you're saving few bucks but are unlikely to hold you back at all on the track:

• HW xr10 stock spec (saves you $50+ over the Pro with minimal difference in performance and you gain some weight savings
• Non-team versions of the motors above
• Protek 160T or a $100ish savox
• Still recommend the Protek LCG 4800
• Agree with the poster above, Sanwa MT-5 or Futaba 4PM, but you could also check out the Flysky

I also recommend talking to the guys at the shop at the track you'll be racing at to get a gauge on their support for these products. I don't expect there to be a lot of support issues with these brands but always worth checking. For example, if they don't carry Protek servo gear kits, you'll be SOL if your Protek servo strips a gear while racing. I also try to spend as much of my money at my local shop to help keep the lights on.

For stock blinky:

• r1 wurks LIHV battery and motor*
• Orca bp1001 ESC if you can solder well, Maclan pico 100 if you can at least solder a motor
• noble nb4
• agfrc b44bls

A little pricey but should last you a long time. The servo may seem like an amazon brand servo but is packed with good specs for under anything on amain. This combo works for me as I'm still learning but has plenty of torque to clear triples and the speed to match the fast guys. Just my driving and tuning skills are holding me back. I put a * on the motor because I had a sensor board go out on it rather somewhat quick. It is a wear and tear item that gets replaced but seemed to be either delicate-ish or just a bad board. It could be my bad or hard landings caused it go bad :P. I ordered a replacement and spare to keep on hand. No servo saver on my rig and servo is fine. Again, it has crashed, a lot, but no stripped gears :D. Recently upgraded my batteries from ovonic to r1 wurks lihv, but not out a lack of track speed. The cells are designed to hold a little more capacity, so personally, I'd rather have that extra 5-10% battery life be empty for a flatter discharge curve (debatable, but i got peace of mind) at the cost of overall battery capacity.

You will hear dozens of great ideas. First questions....

1. budget?

I'm building one myself and have come to pretty much the same conclusions:

• Sanwa MT-5 or M17 with RX-493i
• Pro Performance FS10HV-SR
• Hobbywing XR10 Pro G2
• Trinity Slot Machine or Hobbywing G4
• iCharger DX6
• RLPower 85amp w/ USB

I really want to try the "feel" of the XSC150P but they're not in stock anywhere.

Out of the box the ProPerformance XSC150P feels great. Personally, I like the XSC150P better than the HW XR10 Pro G2 with the box settings. The XSC150P just nicely tuned straight out of the box. However, now I run all HW XR10 Pro (Stock or G2) because the bluetooth programming box is convenient. Keeping all kits with relatively the same electronics has value. Similarly, I run all the same servos now with the only variation being low profile or standard.

What servos do you run with the XR10 Stock?

edit: NVM the site I was looking at made it seem like it only supported 6v but I see in the description it supports 7.4v

I run Sanwa PGS-LH II servos in most of my vehicles. I have a couple of Sanwa PGS-XB II that are super strong, wicked fast and precise. Sanwa PGS let's you tune the servo behavior and I have an M17 to tune with. Often it's the tuning of a servo that drives individual preference. However, I haven't found a lot of resources for PGS setting so YMMV.

I also have a couple Pro Performance XTS600-HT that were great as well. Similar to my comments about the XSC150P the tuning of the XTS600-HT for turf/carpet is great out of the box. I now run these in my loaner cars for friends, and they have held up to a lot of abuse.

The Protek 160TBL seems to be a super popular recommendation on the forums.

I have one Savox Black Edition LP that is fine, but does drift from center. It's also the noisiest of all. I think it's because it's the only composite body servo out of all. The tradeoff is it's significantly cheaper and lighter then these other servos.

Is there a particular power supply you can recommend?

I use two of the 12 volt computer server power supplies wired in series to get 24 volts to power my icharger 458 duo. Works great. Power supply is 24 volts at 64 amps and 1500watts. So not enough power to max out my charger but it’s good enough for me. I can still charge one 6s lipo at 45 amps.
