New 17.5 motor setup?

I purchased a new 17.5 Fantom Helix RS Works edition. I will be using this in my B6.4 on black carpet. This motor has all the goodies and shims, bearing, screws already in it. My question is the motolyser paper that came with it says its running at 3.45 Amps. I know nothing about what this should actually be or if it matters? I did hear that 5-6 amps is more optimal though. Do I need to put this motor on an analyser and get it dialed in more? Thanks for the input in advance.

it should be good as is. drive it and see what do you think..youcan always add more timing thru end bell

When you are running unloaded and pulling 3.45 amps you are going to have to gear higher than someone running the same motor pulling 5-6 amps. But, their motor will produce more heat and the efficiency will not be as good as yours. If you have a motolyser you can plot an rpm vs amp draw graph to find what timing is the most efficient. Every time I do this I find that when a motor is pulling 5+ amps unloaded, the amps are going up a lot more than the rpm. I'm going to summon Bry195 , he can go into a lot more detail if you want.

Fantom has their motors down pat. I run the Helix 13.5 in my wheeler, I tried the slot machine for 17.5. I would do 72/30 and take it from there. Check your temps, and adjust from there.

totally agree. The helix motors are beasts and really don’t need to be messed with much. They due(like hotrod mentioned) seem to like to be geared a little more than trinitys. Noticeable difference to me though between those and the xfactors anyway.

I ran it with the 72/31 I had on my previous xfactor and didn't change anything. It is noticeably stronger!! It did however get close to 150 towards the motor plate side. I might have the mesh just slightly too tight though. Gonna keep running it as is. Thanks for the input!!

I was looking at ordering one of their Team motors. Should I get the 24mm rotor and +6 sensor board for my buggy that I run on black carpet. Also, can someone explain the benefits of the smaller rotor and the +6 sensor board. Thanks.

For stock you always want the strongest rotor, thats how you make power with limited turns. In mod you run softer or different rotors to change how they drive and to make low turn motors in 2ws easier to drive.

So get the strongest rotor, you dont need the highest end works motor if its not in the budget, the stronger rotor is more important. Filling out what you'll mainly be using the motor for on their website will help them set the timing and such to what you need so you don't have to worry about that.
