Vxl-3s keeps overheating
 

I have a stock vxl-3s with very harsh 20-54 gearing with a fan setup, and it keeps overheating quickly. I am just wondering if only having 3 minutes of run time is normal. It is in a Traxxas rustler 4x4 vxl although I drive it like a short course truck(stop, go, stop, go) very harshly with a 5000 mah battery. Also, please give me a 3s-4s castle motor and esc combo that would be good for it. Size doesn’t matter. I’ll make it fit.

Page 27, gearing far into red. It is more like to use on asphalt doing speedruns.

3 minute runtime.... Did you check the LVC setting?

way over geared. and ill bet ur running 3 cells.;lvc really lol.

3 minutes is too short, your 20/54 gearing is too aggressive, causing overheating. Try gearing down (like 18/54) for better temps. For a strong upgrade, look at the Castle Mamba Monster X ESC with a 1515-2200kv motor great for 3S–4S and can handle abuse.

After almost 4 years I do not think a new answer is needed.
