Icharger 406 duo problem
 

So I got this charger a while back. It's been great. Wednesday night I was racing and came off the track kinda pissed about my race. Popped the lid off my buggy and unplugged it. I plugged in my charge leads. Instantly popped and smoked out of my first channel. Got hot. I unplugged the leads. Let it sit. Tried again. Glowed orange and smoked out of the first channel. What happened? I was upset but have it all color coded. I don't think I hooked it up backwards. I always stop the charger before I unplug the batteries. It was not on the beginning screen but not connected to anything so no current was running or it would have sparked at the leads ends right? What popped? Can it be fixed?

Ty, yes I'm fairly new to ichargers. I did buy this used. I have watched a bunch of YouTube videos. Iv not opened it yet.

They have reverse protection so plugging it in backwards gives the alarm.

Was it powered up when you plugged it in? Or, could the icharger have shut off and you didn't realize it when you plugged it in?

Sounds like it was faulty. Plugging it in backwards won't harm it, I've done that a few times and it just warns you.

Do you use high current charge/discharge cycles?

Does the charger still work on 2nd channel?

Nick Adams on Youtube has a bunch of videos on icharger Duo repairs. Most common problem is a blown power fet, but there can also be fuses and resistors that are bad.

It was on and normally on the home screen. It was on the done screen from the last charge I think.

Yes b still works and iv watched the videos. I found one diode blown and one fet. Fet was easy to find the diode iv not found yet.

Haven't found a replacement diode?

Should check the resistor driving the gate pin on the blown fet to make sure it's still within spec. I've seen ones that have no resistance a couple of times, which causes fet problems.
