Servos & Controllerz

Hey all! I’m new here and am looking to get back into the hobby. I used to bash/race electric RC10’s in the early/mid 90’s. But I’m thinking of getting into nitro 1/8 scale. I’m looking at getting a used Kyosho mp10 converted to to the tki2. The gentleman said it has NitroPros high torque & speed servos. A controller/radio won’t come with the car.

The guy said I could use any controller for the car that I purchase. I’m really confused as, back in the day, you had to have the controller with the same brand receiver/servos.

Am I mistaken?? Am I not remembering it correctly??

Any questions or any other info you need to help just let me know! If anyone is in Georgia, near Loganville/Covington I’d love to meet up and play around!

The receiver needs to match the radio. Servos are interchangeable.

Ok, I don’t know why I was thinking it had to be the same. Do controllers come with their own receivers? Also, do Nitro rc’s use ESC’s??

There are some radios that have proprietary communication formats that only work with their servo's but that is an optional thing the radio will still work with generic servos.

No nitro don't use an ESC.

Not always.... Like the latest Futaba SR technology there are new SR servo's only for SR bus.

Typically, controllers/transmitters/radios come with at least one receiver. For 1/8 Nitro (an other large and/or nitro classes) you will likely want a long antennaed receiver, not an antennaless one.
