Hobbywing Non polarity capacitor on older esc
Hi, does any know if we can use the Non polarity capacitor on esc as old as the Xerun v3.0?
|
I can't imagine it would be a problem. It's just a capacitor that doesn't smoke when you plug it in backwards.
|
Yes it works. The only issue is that you are more likely to blow the ESC when you plug a battery in backwards.
|
you can use it on any esc, just make absolute sure your car is wired to not be able to plug in backwards.. once you have the non polarity cap you lose the safety zap you would get with other caps. usually a hw esc will survive this with a standard cap. escs that just auto turn on will instadead.

I still prefer the non-polarized one...unless you have a HW XR10 pro which has reverse protection. On my car, I wired it such you can't plug it backwards with one wire long and other short. Than I bought a CNHL pack that used a thru hole type connection. Once you flip the pack upside down, the + and - are complete opposite sides. I plug that in accidently...got big Spark, Zap, Pop... A change of underwear later, I discover the Cap are blown, but the ESC was ok. I can't imagine what would happen if the cap are polarized and the ESC would be the one getting fried.

Made my own :)

yes...I got the two terms backward. The polarity version blow when it was connected in reverse.
|
cool. thanks for the pointers guys. I am going to hook one up to my old esc.

So the Non polarity capacitor came. But both wires are black without markings.
Which one is positive? and which one is negative? |
It's non-polarized, it doesn't matter which way you connect it. That's the point.....
|
Got it. Thanks!

This article write up mainly explains the pure differences between non-polar and polarized electrolytics. It does not explain the dielectrics nor will I elaborate. Does explain the films some what and is more of a introduction to these types of capacitors. Non-polar electrolytic capacitors are especially good at quelch and deresolution of harmonics with coupling. These capacitors ideally participate in more than one participle function in one capacitor. |
Dealing with mainly electrolytics here.
However do keep in mind that a true non-polar electrolytic capacitors are a singular built self contained thru-hole/SMD component and come in all sorts of required values so there is really no need to parallel them or make a non-polar cap from two polarized ones. I suppose one can tinker at your own risk. :) |
