If you do not want to build your own, there are pre modded ones for sale.

I own both and have zero complaints.

As stated earlier, the LCO is a LIPO. Just a different chemistry. The biggest down fall of an LCO is there longevity. Their life expectancy is lower and they can't handle abuse. They will work great as long as you don't push them to a point of heating up. That just means you will have to drop a tooth on your pinion. As for the life span, I wouldn't stress that too much because you can buy 2 of those for the price of one good model. I would buy one and try it out for about a dozen runs. Time it each time to see if you it is staying consistent.

I appreciate the links and if I see it’s too difficult to do so myself I’ll prob purchase one but I’m on the fence because the cost of electric is creeping up to nitro’s cost. I understand once I get or make one I won’t need to buy another (unlike fuel) but I am trying to save money if I can. Let me do some research on how intensive making one myself would be.

i found this. I’m confused on whether it’s the actual power supply or just an adapter, from the reviews it seems like it’s the whole thing. I can’t tell if it’s 24 or 12v though.

from my understanding I need 24v to charge 4s batteries to the full capacity of the iCharger x6. Especially since I will only be allowed to charge one battery at a time, unless I connect them in series but given that one will be plugged into the car while the other charges, I don’t know if that’s really a problem.

That power supply should work just fine. It is an HP server power supply. Has the connector for the icharger x6. It is 12v, but that will be fine to charge your 4s battery. It is the wattage that matters, amps x volts. So 16.8v (full charged 4s pack) at 10a = roughly 170 watts. That power supply is rated at 1200 watts, generally it is best not to exceed 80% of that. Gives you plenty of room.

Charging a 5200 mah battery at 10 amps will take about 30 minutes for a full charge. Likely less because you probably won't drain the battery all the way.

Solico 10-29-2020 11:14 AM

Oh my, 30 minutes? That's insane! It would take me 2+hrs to charge on my iMaxx b6 (I think that's what's called). and that was charging 2s packs.

So it seems like this is a good option for me. 150$ for charger and PS was more than what I was expecting but should be fine as i'm saving money in all other parts of my build. I guess I can look at the charger/PS combo as the same cost of a starter box, battery and charger for Nitro.

most people will just use a computer converted 12 volt power supply like the one you listed and yes it will work fine. The x6 charger only gets full 800 watts of power with a 24volt power supply. The icharger x6 only has an input limit of 35 amps. So 35amp times only a 12 volt power supply will only give you 420 watts of usable power which means you can only charge a 4s lipo at 25 amps and not at the full 30amps. So it will take probably about 10-15 mins to charge your battery.

Solico 10-29-2020 11:33 AM

Thanks for all the help everyone. Given that I’m only using 420w @12v should I look for something cheaper than that 1200w supply or just save myself the hassle and go for it?

billdelong 10-29-2020 11:35 AM

Yes the X6 can check the IR and is an excellent value for what you get in a charger, more info here:

literally exactly what I was looking for, soldering some bullet connectors onto a 20$ 12v ps from eBay seems like the most cost effective option so far. Thanks for the info.

while I am in fact leaning towards the iCharger x6, I found the isdt q8 on amazon for 60$ which would make my ps/charger combo less than 100$ which is incredible.

main difference is 500w for the q8 and 800w for the x6

for a single 12v ps I should be fine with 500w from what I understand right? So long as my charge times are around 30 min I’m happy!

I don't know anything about that charger. But you should also budget to either make or buy a charge lead as well. The one thing I can say, buy a charger that you know is good. I bought the 308 duo and the 406 duo, one for home and one for the track. I have never looked back. Actually I have an X6 too, but that is a different story.

You will need to buy a more expensive 24V supply if you want to get the full potential out of an iDST, more info here:

You will end up spending about the same amount of money on a X6 (with a less expensive 12V supply) and will get far better performance out of the X6 ;)

alrighty. I guess the 40$ is a necessary sacrifice. Maybe some sales come up towards Black Friday and I can secure a few deals.

For now it’s back to scouring the BST forums here for a 1/8 e roller.

the creeping costs of electric are making me reconsider nitro but in all honesty, I kinda don’t want to mess with all the tuning shenanigans and needing a pit man. I rather get going with plug and play and learn to drive On a track first.
