Charging off the grid
I’m going to be going to a new dirt track next month and they don’t have any outdoor power. What’s everyone using for off grid charging? Deep cycle? Generators? Or simply carry a lot of batts? Anyone have a more elegant solution?

What about charging off your car battery... 12V DC
|
I have an AGM deep cycle 110A second battery setup in my vehicle. It chargers through dcdc module at 20 amps when car is running and 150watt solar panel that puts in 12- 15 amps when car not running. Powers the fridge for cold beverages, lights and 400watt dual Lipo charger trackside no worries.

Before I got my generator, I used a power inverter similar to this here:
https://www.harborfreight.com/400-wa...ter-56496.html Only catch is that I found it necessary to start my car every couple of hours and charge the car battery for about 15 min to prevent over discharging it, first time I used the inverter I had to get a jump start at the end of the race day, doh! |
Why would yoy use a power inverter if there are so many chargers working at 12v?
An inverter will make lots of extra loss of capacity of the 12v car battery. |

OK, when using an extension cord to sit far from your car I can understand the idea.
