Battery Temperature After Charging
I charged my relatively new Protek 2800mah radio battery yesterday and it was warm when I took it off the charger. I didn't remember noticing this before. It was 78degF by the time I temped it (maybe 3-4min after taking it off) and 70degF in the house. It wasn't super hot when I took it off, just enough to think, hmm that seems a little warm.
I saw a bunch of threads about heating your batteries beyond this for performance but also a bunch of things saying the battery should not heat up while charging. I wasn't sure if any temp rise at all was worrisome when you were not heating the battery on purpose? Is using it risky or is it okay? Battery has fewer than ten cycles on it (was new in November) and was charging on a Hitec X1 at 1.0amps, never charged at higher than 2amps since I have had it. thanks, zach |
Are you charging at 2.8 amps? Is your charger set for high voltage batteries? My transmitter batteries don't get warm.

78°F is negligible, I wouldn't be concerned until the cells approached the 99°F mark... where the higher the charge rate the more heat will build up from the extra flow of current.
My Tx pack is a 1S-5Ah pack and I only charge it at 2A which is 2/5 = 0.4C which is no where near the 1C limit and my pack remains the same ambient temp. |
Thanks for the replies! I'll press on and just keep an eye on it.
Also, I ended up calling AMain today and man, their customer service is amazing! |
