Battery wires

Hello guys, i'm new here and i want help. After 12 years out of rc cars it's time to get busy again with the hobby

I bought a new CC Sidewinder3 and a Orion vortex 4.5 motor.I put it in my old ta04r and connect it with a 12 years old GP 3300

nimh battery. The problem is, the motor is cogging when i push the throtle and when it starts to move it has not the power i expected.

It has to low rpm at full throtle. The problem is from the battery, wires/bad connectors or a wrong setup with the radio? or something

else maybe?

Thank you in advance.

The old battery is your problem. I suggest you buy a LiPo charger and 2s LiPo batteries. You can buy LiPo batteries from Pulsebattery.com. I recommend their 2s hardcase 5000mAh or 7200mAh packs. You will find that 12 years later, these rc’s are faster and more powerful!

I feel the same way that nimh is past it useful life. Even common nimh today are 5000mah 30amp

Nickel metal batteries are ancient technology.

Are you using a sensor wire between the esc and motor? Orion 1/10 motors are meant to be sensor and running without it can make them act weird.

Thank you all for your response,no i don't use sensor wire as my esc is sensorless. So the low power in my motor is from dead battery?
May is from not compatible esc and motor?

Castle's homepage says the Sidewinder3's motor limit is 19T - and you're trying a 4.5T? And In a TA04R?

sensored motor trying to run on nonsensored esc will cause cogging.
Old battery can also cause cogging

so solutions would be get a sensored esc with sensor wire attached to both esc and motor
lipo battery and charger

Also low power must be from battery right? I ask this if the problem comes from wrong combinaton of esc and motor.

Everyone above has tried to help you - you should read what they have written - in summary
12 year old nimh battery is not going to work
Your speed control is not going to work with the motor you selected - CC has a list of motors which can be paired with the speedo you bought and I doubt any of them are suitable for your TA04.

If you want to run a 4.5T motor ( which is also not suitable for your TA04 ) you need to buy a 2S lipo and speed control which can handle that motor. Read the specs to find out which motors they support. I believe you are looking at about 160 AMP capability.

Better would be a 13.5T motor and a 60 - 80 amp speedo

Speed cost money - how fast can you afford to go? ;)

ggamex 11-29-2019 02:29 PM

Thank you for your help guys :).The ta04 it will continue as shelf-queen,it's fragile as you said with this setup i know.
Maybe i will buy a new combo or a motor from CC to pair with the Sw3. And a lipo for sure.
:)
