wirelessly programmable servo tech

so if there was technology allowing you to program your servos speed , torque , return rate , and many other adjustments from an app on your phone ..... would you be interested ?

its hypothetical for the time being :D

Sure? But how is this better or different than adjusting servo speeds on the radio? I can't imagine a situation where i'd want a lower torque servo. To have the option of "more or less" of any function, you'd need to have an excess to start with, so you could restrict those limits.

Under what cirumstances would you, or someone else want "less than the best the servo could be"?

I have an answer that's not no, but i'm wondering how far you've taken this idea in your head.

I guess? I've never really understood the purpose of most programmable servo settings. Being able to set any position as center and adjust the throw sounds useful but I don't get the rest.

I see these kind of functions more and more in the transmitters. Today with SBUS servo's you can directly program the servo and speedcontroler.

Lower torque can act as a servo saver.
A seperate torque and velocity setting would be ideal.
Backlash or windup compensation would be awesome.
being able to position to external potentiometer would be awesome.
control over the acceleration and deceleration rates of the servo would be great.
speed sensitive steering would be great.
being able to log current and position would be great.
having torque limits would be phenomenal.
Having an automated response to dead heading or over torque the servo would be great.

yea, one or two programmable options would be great.

or create a programmable velocity and position loop so that it opens up all motion control possibilities for different vehicles, tracks, and driving styles.

Isn't that basically what Hotwire does for the Tekin servos?

at the current time you can program many functions into servos but you can not do it wirelessly ..... ;)

i am trying to put a feeler out to see what you guys would think of such a technology .....

open discussion ...... keep it positive and keep the ideas flowing

Ok, you are making the distinction between wireless networking and Bluetooth (Hotwire is wireless)? To be fair, I think most people will be indifferent since most mobile devices support both and both mechanisms require some "join" function (whether pairing or joining the wifi of the device). Having wifi will help those who want to use an older laptop that doesn't support Bluetooth but those from a phone would likely be indifferent.

Hotwire doesn't work wirelessly for the Tekin servos, only through direct connection when plugged in to a pc.

My bad, I had assumed there was a mobile version of the servo configuration like the ESC config. However, it doesn't seem to be a technical limitation.

currently there is no such thing as wirelessly programmable servos or speed controls ...... orrrr receivers or any rc electronics

this would be a huge leap in rc technology

i am just getting opinions on what , if any , use it would be to racers

frewster 05-17-2019 12:39 PM

It would be especially great to be able to program an ESC with your phone without an adapter. I can see how it would be good for servos, too. Or if they used something like sbus and you could do it on the transmitter...

Bry195 05-17-2019 07:31 PM

What do you mean? I program wirelessly my sanwa esc and servo.

check out the code 10 list for the super vortex esc and the pgs servos

jon003 05-17-2019 07:53 PM

Futaba sbus?

Basically your going to make a app to program them like they do at the OEM?
