Muchmore racing specter vs trinity punisher

Hey all, questions for any of you that have ran either one. we ran the punisher last season and not really impressed with the “fastest” motor claim on the box, especially given it was an outlaw motor. I notice the much more carries twice the price tag, same claim. Our punisher was no faster laptime wise than the other 13.5’s we tested, including the motiv mc2, tekin gen3, and others. We did run boosted last season and this year went to blinky, still no roar approval required. Have been eyeballing the mc3 and smc low rider as well. High speed dirt oval high grip sct based vehicles. Lots of on throttle time. For the low kv the punisher had on the bench, we really didn’t see the torque on the track, thinking that motor was a lot of hype.

The club in our area allows outlaw motors too, however with the Punisher I found you need to gear up about 3 teeth on the pinion more than the Monster Max. In addition you will get nickle and dimed on the Punisher if you want to unlock its full potential you need to upgrade to aluminum screws on both the can and timing plus an aluminum timing plate, combined these upgrades are supposed to add well over 500 RPM. I recently worked on a motor for a local who bought all these options and everyone thought he was running a mod motor, ha! I have since ordered the upgrade options myself, which I think will still be less expensive overall when compared to the price of the Specter.

No doubt someone will show up to the track soon with a Specter and I can't wait to compare results. It's worth pointing out that some folks found that they got faster lap times with ROAR approved motors, only because they had less torque they were able to hit the throttle harder in the chicanes and carry faster corner speed with a slower motor. Not everyone can handle the extra torque you get from a Punisher, and this is only compounded if you don't gear up to account for the extra torque. I would expect similar results with the Specter if I had to guess.

My complaint on the punisher is this.... I have had two. The first one was mid 3400-3500kv and the second one was 3120-3200 kv. First one was fast second one not as much. Both setup the same. I upgraded both to all alum and picked up very little kv, maybe 20-30 and nothing much on Rpms. They were inconsistent between motors for sure.

Now i took a motiv mc2, installed stainless screws and picked up 160kv and 1800 rpms, less amp draw at the same timing. I suspected the rotor in the punisher is already so much stronger that the metal has little effect on it.

I wonder if it might be worth installing a "Team Spec" rotor in a Punisher to get optimal performance? Assuming that the Monster Max rotor is compatible of course, I have not tried this yet, but have another Punisher on order and will give it a try this weekend.

Or a red mod rotor.
