Protek or icharger?
Whats up guys. I'm getting back into the stock racing thing again and want to upgrade my charger to keep up with the charger game at the tracks. I have the protek 612 right now which has been a great charger, and when it came out was great. I have had it since it came out and no problems so I am happy with the product. Now I see they have a 625 which charges at 25 amps, but what can you discharge at? Can you plug a discharge bank in and get 30 to 40 discharge amps? Now I know the ichargers do it all, and if I wait, I know there will be one that comes up used with a power supply and a stand for just a little more than the protek NEW. I will have to wait to find the deal and I will have to jump on it, and it will be USED, but they are out there. Another question is how much more pep will you feel from 25-30, or 25-40. I don"t think the 25-30 would be a huge difference but 40 might. I have ran a battery that was discharged then charged at 30, and can feel a huge difference from anything I can charge at 12. So I am going to get something I can charge and discharge at these rates with, just wanted to get some more opinions on it. I also understand all the goods and bads that come with charging at these rates, but racing is racing and any edge is one I want. Thanks for reading, and thanks for all the replies in advance.

You will be amazed what you can read about the pro's and cons of high current charging and discharging in this topic

OK, I will give one topic for free: https://www.rctech.net/forum/radio-e...afe-track.html |
I figured if I started a thread someone out of the millions of people would just post there thoughts. Not make me out to be an idiot who should search through thousands of posts to find some opinions, but you know what they say about opinions. I could of also searched youtube, or contacted customer support, hell even just put it in the google search engine and it would of probably took me right here in rc tech. There is a post on the first page about this very charger and the dude says he loves the charger. I get it, I just wanted to know if I could discharge with the protek charger. The protek would be a little easier since it is AC and I've already used protek products, so I could figure out the controls easier, I also get that 25 is bigger than 40. Just a question on opinions new or used? I can spend 249$ or whatever it is for the protek or I can wait and get a used i charger with a supply used for a little more. I can also buy a dis charger and be in somewhere around 350-400$ with the protek. On is it safe, half the guys racing stock are charging at 40 or more anyway. Any expert stock racer is charging and discharging up there the safety doesn't bother me, if there was a problem I'm pretty sure the owner would let you know he wouldn't want you doing it at his track. Anyways I guess this forum isn't for conversations. Thanks for the link, next time I will do my own research and not be such a lazy slob.

It is for conversation, but you must understand too, that these forums get pretty gray and no longer black and white when we start having 50threads on the same subject! And not to take away from your question, but most are tired seeing how much effort and knowledge has went into existing threads, then only to see a new thread pop up. Its just not very productive... and it can lead to confusion.
take in mind too that new threads soon fill up with relativly newer member spreading bogus or non related info just to get their post counts up. As such pre existing threads are well established with good info. |
You can get the benefits of an Icharger without having an Icharger by being able to deep cycle your cells.
ex. You can use the GD200 from geforce or the skyrc counter-part and discharge your pack to lets say 6.4 volts(3.4 per cell), and charge back up at 12 amps from your current charger. The process will lower the resistance or your cells the same way an Icharger Dou would. Just without the high charge rates. You will see an increase in power delivery. |
