esc getting hot?
 

I have a hobbywing v3.1 that seems to be getting hotter than normal. I dont remember making any huge changes in settings since this happened. I noticed because power seemed to cut out when off and on the throttle a lot. On and off the throttle I seem to loose power like every 20th time. Its not consistent and if I let of the trigger the throttle comes back on the next press. While looking into this I noticed the front of the esc(opposite side of wire connections) it was pretty hot , but my guess would be not more than 100 degrees. Any ideas on what to start looking into. All the connections "look" solid.

sounds like it could be a sensor wire. try a different senor wire. This could make it run hotter too as its basically misfiring when you have a bad wire.

100 deg is nowhere close to hot, just be sure to keep thermal protection enabled... when you say loosing power, is it not from hitting LVC?

Short bursts of hard acceleration will draw the highest amount of current, and yes temps will be higher, so long as as thermal protection not hitting then you're fine

Yes 100 is absolutely fine but if it ever does overheat here are a few things to look at:

1. Do you have a fan on it? If not then get one!

2. If you do have a fan then check to make sure its operational

3. Servo? Some servos may cause it to draw too much current on bec. Either get a different servo, use a rx battery, or use a cap

4. Just because the connectors look fine, doesnt mean theyre not faulty. Replace them with high quality connectors.

5. Over gearing will strain your motor, esc, and battery causing overheating. Drop the pinion tooth or raise the spur tooth. The opposite of undergearing can cause overheating as well by prolonged maxing out the motors RPMs.

6. Weight of vehicle. Do you have excessive amounts of aluminum? Put the rc on a diet to lower temps.
