Receiver not working correctly

I have an rc transmitter and receiver that I pulled from a remote control helicopter and I’m having some issues. I wired a motor into the receiver so that I could control its power using the throttle stick on the transmitter, the issue is that when I put power to the receiver it turns on the motor without being able to be controller from the transmitter. I’m not sure how to fix this or what is even the problem, the motor I’m using was already wired into the receiver so I don’t understand why it’s behaving like this and why I can’t control it. Does anyone have any idea what’s going on?

What kind of receiver from what kind of helicopter?
If it is an everyday receiver with 5 or more 3-pin channel outputs you do need an esc to control the motor.

robaso..more than likely you will need to remove a motor wire from esc then you will need to calibrate ESC to that radio system to control motor and esc correctly. then once you calibrated esc to radio connect motor wire back to esc and all should work fine
