Help with RC setup

Hi Forum
I am hoping you guys can help an newbie out , i am currently trying to re-use an old Helicopter rc unit + servos to convert a 1/16 scale construction digger to RC.
Now my problem is the old setup was using one motor and mostly servos so i am unsure if i need a new receiver unit to run the motors or perhaps you can recommend a good setup for me ?
I would also like to use the heli radio set and in particular the throttle to make the unit go forward and reverse, i have it working in one direction with a micro geared motor which works great but i am unsure how i would get the forward/reverse work with the current unit , currently i can only change direction by reversing the polarity of the motor/battery.

I would appreciate any information / guidance you guys could give me about the best way to go about this, worth mentioning the setup already has a speed controller but only has two wires coming out of it, so i am unsure if this would allow me to get forward/reverse or if even the current receiver kit would be able to give me this functionality.
The current sticks on the control give me left and right functions on the servos but i don't know if this will work for motors or how i go about getting this to work.

Perhaps i need a programmable circuit / rc receiver ?, i need 9 functions if possible again any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
MikeF
