Most Adjustable 1/8 ESC for Data Logging & Custom Throttle Curves
I'm working on a RC research project and am wondering what 1/8 scale sensored ESC has the most adjustability. I'm looking to create custom throttle profiles (i.e. creating the exact profile, not simply choosing a profile), have data logging for motor rpm, voltage, current, etc.
In my initial research, it looks like the Castle Mamba X and Tekin RX8 Gen3 both have these features, but I'm leaning towards the Tekin because the data logging software seems better. Is there anything other ones I'm missing or that have more features than these? Cost isn't an issue. Any insight would be appreciated! |
Tekin is the one you want.

If you want to see the features of any of our controllers, we have a demo mode in our Castle Link software that shows you all available options and generates a datalog to show you what the log will look like on screen.
The Mamba X is able to datalog 10 different parameters at a 1, 2, 5, or 10 samples per second. The log is able to have all 10 parameters logged at 5 samples/second for 15.5 minutes. Turning off parameters allows you to get a 5.5 hour datalog of 1 parameter at 1 sample/second. Our throttle and brake curves are entirely user definable and can be saved to and loaded from a file. |

Thanks for the reply, where can I get some examples of this data? What are the 10 parameters that can be measured? Can you set the throttle curve to follow a specific shape (or form a curve fit from various input points)?
The 10 parameters it can log are: Battery Voltage Battery Ripple Battery Current Controller Temperature Controller Throttle Input Controller Motor Power Output Motor RPM Auxiliary Wire Mode BEC Voltage Motor Temperature In demo mode there is an example datalog(example log is from an airplane but will look similar to what you would see on a Mamba X) that can be viewed. Different datasets can be toggled on and off to make the graph easier to read and you can zoom in on the data to isolate moments of interest. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...767a0ed1bf.png Throttle Curve and Brake curve can be defined by up to 10 points and then either follow a best fit curve or a linear scaling between points. You can do a simple curve with a single point, or do an absurd curve that makes no sense. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...0707216383.png |
I use the Mamba X in my 2WD SCT for racing and it is a nice ESC. Strong brakes with a good amount of adjustment. My only complaint would have been that I would need to take my laptop with me to program it in the field. Apparently Castle just released a bluetooth module that will allow you to program the ESC from your phone.

Does the Monster X have the same log capacity as the Mamba X?

I prefer to tune with my laptop though so I bring it to the track with me. |
I would have to say tekin or hobbywing |
