Motor Timing

I have a Hobby Wing V10 G2 5.5 motor, and my friend said that timing must be used or the motor will burn out to quick! I always felt it wasn't needed on mod motors, whose right? This thing is way to fast on timing.

how much timing are you running currently?

I've never touched the timing on a mod motor... kinda defeats the purpose when you reduce the turns to get more power and increasing the timing also draws more power then you limit your gearing options... stock racing is a different animal where you need to find the optimal power output with timing adjustment for peak performance, but with mod you already have gobs of power to begin with so why bother?

sounds like your friend has no idea what he's talking about.
