Servo glitching is it my bec?
Hey guys, its been a couple of years since i got the old truck out and i remember that when i last drove it the servo crapped itsself. I just whacked a new one in and it seems to be glitching around. It barely has enough power to move under the weight of the car and is inconsistent. Is it possible my Castle creations BEC has stuffed up? or do i have a bad servo... ? :\

we will need more info. Specific esc and servo models would help narrow down the issue, as well as radio.
Savox servos are very well known to glitch out on Castle Creation Bec's, more so when paired with specific radio systems. And so usually an external bec or a larger bec is added to the system to keep the glitches away. |
I thought I might need to give a little more info, ok here goes;
- Ace Rc BLC-150C ESC - Ripper 2000KV IBL-40/20 motor - Hobby King HK15298B servo - Ace Rc Cougar P3 radio - Castle Creations BEC (can't remember which one, but it's pretty basic and in blue shrink wrap... I hope this is the lot??? |
It could be a bad servo. The specs are only 0.16sec transit at 7.4v so it may be because of that. Can you explain more the problem?
Does the servo stutter? Does it not work for a couple of seconds then go back to working? or is it just 'slow' |
I've been told the servo is supposed to be able to keep up with the truck.
It's extremely slow due to how weakly it's turning. Feels like less than 1kg of force... It also sort of shudders when i go full lock and then completely let go. Plus it does little grindy glitchy stuff for no reason... |
it could be bad or stripped gears. Ultimately i have never had a problem with the servos i have used (Savox, Xpert, JX) so unfortunately cant help much more without physically seeing it. someone else may be able to help but I feel that it could be broken or stripped gears.
Best thing you can do is send back to hobbyking and get a new one or go all out and get a name brand such as Savox. |
Hrmmmmmphh
In some ways I hope it is the servo so don't have to trouble shoot, but it's very annoying as the servo is over 2 years old but it's the first time I've fired it up... I think at this point a savox might be the right move if it is indeed the servo thats screwed... |

2 BEC's????
The ESC already has a BEC. I was going to mention the Castle BEC is adjustable - probably defaults to 4.8V ...... But I guess that point is moot if you can eliminate it |
If you use the external BEC you have to remove the red wire from the ESC servo wire or else 2 BEC's are fighting with each other.
|
Yeah did that when installed the bec. I had it working with my old servo for about ten runs before the servo bit it...
|
Does the servo glitch (delay) immediately or only after going full lock on the steering, could be that you need to adjust your EPA so that the BEC doesn't brown out if the servo is binding under excessive load at full lock.
Is the servo simply "jittery"? Perhaps a video showing what's going might be helpful, some servos are more jittery than others. I would also rebind your Tx/Rx as well as recalibrate the ESC if it's been a while since you last used your electronics. |
Some cheap digital servos will jitter at idle - like it's hunting for neutral. They tend to be noisy while sitting idle.
What's the voltage coming out of your BEC? |
Try using a glitch busting capacitor.

castle bec are well known to fail.. I have personally gone thru 3 in 30 days.. I switched to another brand .. remove castle or just unplug and try esc servo and see what it does..
