Team orion doesn't do repairs!?

Having an issue with my vortex 10.1. Run hobbywing now but figured id get this fixed and sell it. When contacting horizon hobby this is what they reply with:

"To our knowledge there is no designated Orion repair facility. There are some guys that have repaired them themselves but we do not recommend this. Basically Orion caters to the rc racing community and there is no warranty except that it is right when you first get it. Therefore Orion does not service or repair their products and they recommend the end user just replace the unit."

Im in awe, is there seriously no way to get a repair done?

You don’t contact horizon to have a repair made. You go to Orion’s website and fill out an RMA an then you send it in to Orion to be repaired. Horizon is just a distributor. I had an issue with a charger an they fixed it an sent it back.

Not seeing this anywhere on their website. All support mentions direct you to horizon. It says for product support contact your distributor

I emailed Orion directly under the contact info and got the RMA web page in the email. Followed the step by step instructions, did some corresponding emails an eventually got an RMA number to ship my product back to Orion.

Granted this was almost 2 years ago. I don’t see why it would’ve changed. Or even not having the option to have your esc repaired. So I hope you can get it figured out so you can get a new or repaired esc.

Jwilliams5 - so where did the charger end up being shipped too? From what I understand they are in Europe somewhere.

Jwilliams5 11-22-2017 06:51 PM

Yea it was somewhere in Europe. The whole process wound up taking about 2.5-3 weeks. Can’t remember where exactly.

+1

@OP... not sure HobbyWing does repairs outside warranty either...I only see 180 days listed here:
https://www.hobbywingdirect.com/pages/rma

The only 2 "race grade" ESC brands that I know who supports long term RMA with a nominal service fees are
If folks know of other ESC brands which offer similar service for ESC's outside warranty, I'd love to hear about it!

Hobbywing does indeed service their equipment outside of the normal warranty period. I’ve contacted them about several items and they were very good about servicing and or replacing them. My old v3.1 which I no longer had the box to, or the part number sticker on the side of the esc, they offered to repair it for a very reasonable price. And that is highly out of the ordinary since I didn’t have the original packaging or receipt.

thanks for the tip, I've got a really old HW ESC that is glitchy on landing from jumps, would love to swap it out for a nominal fee!

Sanwa goes through Serpent RC now.

Orion goes through Horizon for warranty I know that for sure because I had a battery issue and that is where I had to go. Horizon is a pain to deal with if you have a issue you call in wait 45 to a hour on hold give them your information and then a few weeks later will get a email saying they are looking into and then maybe you get a response later on. I try to avoid Horizon as much as possible.

I stopped supporting them a few years ago. It sucks as I was running Orion Since Oscar was showing up to Pro10 races selling his batteries. Granted you see guys like Maifield, Cav and such run the brand, but the support is 0. I had been running their CRF motors in 1/8 onroad and then all of a sudden no spares to be found in the US, and the tech support was horrendous. Same with their 1/8 Brushless stuff, no thanks, they are just part of a money making machine now.
