4px wheel spring

After 30+ years with airtronics/sanwa, I've switched to futaba. I'm finding the wheel a little stiff, even on the lightest setting. Anyone else? Can I swap a spring on mod it somehow? Thanks in advance.

Not sure about swapping them as I never have. But I will tell you that over time it will loosen up. Plus it helps the radio center correctly. Lightweight springs can lead to an issue of the radio “bouncing” around center or not always returning to the same position. My personal 4px loosened up some around the 3-5hr mark of use. I then tightened it back up to my preference and it has stayed about where I had for years now.

Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear it will loosen up with use. Hopefully it loosens up enough to suit my liking. My m12 was super soft. I do realize the spring returns the radio to center...only need to have one break at the Indoor Champs to realize how import they are! Anyone else?

I too like a "softer" wheel and set my 4PX as soft as possible, still stiff for my liking. It has softened some over a short period of time. Soft enough for your liking, IDK. But mine is soft enough for for me that I've gotten use to it.

I have to stretch the spring in the futaba, be careful it is really easy to go to far.

I like my wheel so light I do not feel the centering and I can easily roll the wheel with my finger tips.

That's what I think I'll have to do also. It's not so much the stiffness as the way it feels around center as you said. Was the spring easily accessible?

about as difficult as putting on the drop down

Update: I was able to pull the wheel apart, access the spring, and stretch it to my liking. If you go little by little, reinstalling it after each attempt, you can soften it up without going too far. Mine has no center feel when all the way loose and a good amount of center feel when tightened up. Thanks for all that replied. I now love my futaba, and for the first time this weekend, forgot that I had a new radio while practicing. The entire process took less than an hour. I contacted futaba directly and was told there were no replacement springs available. My good buddy contacted a futaba tech and he could have helped me out if I was unsuccessful. Most radio springs are similar, so if you are afraid to stretch it, you can always try installing a different one.
