How many classes do you run?
Okay trying to get a game plan together but I've noticed I have a problem.
I like a lot of different classes. 2wd buggy mod Stadium truck 1/8 scale e buggy 1/10 4wd buggy And on road too 17.5 TC Minis 1/8 gp Nitro sedan And the play in the yard cars Monster truck Various mini and micros 1/5 gas Needless to say I am never done working on cars. Cleaning maintenance repair. But I really enjoy working on the cars. Come on guys. Give me some tips suggestions. What ever you got. Am I insane or is this just part of the normal rc addiction? (Haven't even mentioned the plane gliders quads boats etc) And yes I do spent a lot of my free money on this hobby, probably too much. |
Too many!
In the winter I run, 2wd Mod 4wd Mod 17.5 12th scale In the summer, 8th scale nitro buggy Nitro Sedan It is part of the addiction. I have been in and out of the hobby for over 20 years. I always accidentally find my way back. |
1.10th scale off road:
17.5 buggy Stadium Truck 2wd SCT 4wd SCT 4wd buggy 2wd mod buggy(sometimes) 1/8th scale E-buggy E-truggy Nitro truggy On-road 17.5 TC VTA USGT 1/12 13.5 pan car I also have a couple crawlers, some minis for bashing, and a quad. 30+ R/C cars, in and out for 30+ years. |
CLASSES
FOR CLUB LEVEL:
OUR TRACK ONLY ALLOWS 2 CLASSES PER EVENT SO THAT WE DONT HAVE DRIVERS ON THE STAND ALL NIGHT AND NOT DOING THIER PART FOR CORNER MASHALLING FOR CHAMPIONS TOUR: UNLIMITED CLASSES BUT AT 40.00 PER ENTRY IT CAN ADD UP QUICK. IF YOU RUN MORE THAN A COUPKE CLASSES AND GET BACK TO BACK RACES A COUPLE DOLLAR TIP TO A VOLUNTEER IS ALLWAYS WELCOME FOR INVITATIONALS: 1 CLASS IS TYPICALLY THE ONLY ONE YOU WILL RUN DO TO INCVITES BEING SENT TO PARTICULER DRIVERS FOR THEIR ABILITIES IN EACH CLASS. MARSHALLING IS USSUALLY A ENTRY PAID COVERAGE |
3 classes for me:
17.5 Touring Car 21.5 USGT Touring Car 25.5 F1 If you're trying to consolidate your entries, there are 2 schools of thought: 1: Pick the classes that require similar driving styles (IE: all 2wd classes, etc.) this will help you stay consistent on the track and improve your lap times across all of those classes. 2: You can also do the opposite, and pick classes that require substantially different driving styles (2wd stadium truck, 4wd buggy, etc). This will help improve your skill as a driver, and while it may take some laps to get in the driving mindset of the car you are on, it will help in the long run. |
Just 1 class for me in onroad, 13.5 blinky. Tried running 2 and 3 classes at one stage but at club level you don't have time to fix repairs aswell as marshall. Gotta marshall!
At a large event with A, B, C classes etc I might run 2 classes. Lots of time between heats/races then. When I get the chance to run 1/8 offroad it's e-buggy for me only. Once again it is compulsory to marshall and with only buggy/truggy and e-buggy running there is no time between classes plus I prefer electric anyway. |
1/8th Scale
E-buggy E-Truggy |
Outdoors at my club I run:
1/8th Buggy 1/8th Truggy 4WD SCT 1/8th Electric Late Model Open Oval (run what ya brung breakout) In the past I have also run, Sprint Car, EDM, Truck Oval, 2WD Buggy, Stadium Truck and probably some other classes I can't remember. Indoors at my club: Legends Mudboss Slash Spec Off-Road Figure 8 Slash Spec Oval [if enough] Truck Oval At a track nearby: 4WD SCT 2WD Mod Buggy Stadium Truck I am always working on my cars. Being retired, I am a full time Hobbyist. |
4 season indoor dirt off-road:
2wd mod buggy Summer asphalt outdoor: F-1 VTA Or, you could just look at my sig:p:cool: |

I run just two classes right now; 17.5 Blinky Sedan and 21.5 Sportsman/USGT Sedan
|
I have ran every electric onroad and offroad and dirt oval class but 3.
And those are carpet cars like Bolink Legends and Pan Cars and electric 1/8th latemodels on dirt oval. I did race a touring car on carpet before and I enjoyed it alot. Also wanted to try RC Drag Racing but never had a track nearby. My current classes are 1/10 latemodel, Stock Slash, and Open Wheel Modified Short Course. I only run 2 at a time most of the time. And just 1 class by itself occasionally. Usually if its one class I usually do better depending on the situation. |
3 is about the max I can do personally since I dont' get the run as much as i want to so I need time to make sure I have a good setup.
Outdoor this past season was: - 1/8 E Buggy - 1/10 4x4 SCT - 1/10 2wd Buggy (mod) Indoor this season is going to be: - 1/10 2wd buggy (stock probably) - 1/10 4wd buggy - 1/10 4wd SCT (track I am looking at this is a big class there) Next year outdoor, to be honest I may drop the 1/10 4wd SCT depending on what I see for turnout and go with a 1/8 E Truggy instead. 2wd buggy seems to always have turnout but I prefer 4wd for outdoors here so will have to see. Worse case if I do run 3 again it will be same as before or 1/8 E buggy, 1/8 E Truggy, 1/10 4wd SCT. |
Next year most likely:
1/8 E-Buggy 1/10th SCT (4x4 or 2wd haven't decided, need to figure out which class is more popular) |
Personally,
ebuggy etruggy nitro buggy 4wd sct BUT, I only run a max of 3 of the above at any time. So I usually choose between nbuggy and 4wd sct....But if there isn't a truggy class, I run the other 3. And I have them on a 3 week rotation on complete rebuilds. |
