In years past, there has been a track membership which gives you access to the track (via combo lock) on days where race events are not being held (i.e. week days). Many folks local to Jackson take advantage of this membership. Historically it has been $50/yr -- not sure if that is the rate for 2013. Memberships can be purchased during race days. We require you to sign a waver/etc.

As for race classes ... this is something that changes slightly from year to year mostly based upon the changes in technology and trends. The biggest class by far is "stock" 1/10th scale EP 4wd rubber tire touring car. For this summer "stock" should mean:

#1 17.5T brushless ROAR legal motors - http://www.roarracing.org/?page_id=251
#2 ROAR approved non-timing ESC - http://www.roarracing.com/?page_id=737
#3 ROAR approved 2S lipo batteries - http://www.roarracing.org/?page_id=259
#4 ROAR rules around 190mm electric touring cars (hasn't been updated since 2010)- http://www.roarracing.com/downloads/..._Rule_Book.pdf
#5 Touring car weight (could be wrong in rule book) 1380gr
#6 2S battery voltage 8.40v

Additionally, we spec a rubber tire for the track to prevent a "tire war" from being started. For the past few years this has been a Solaris USA SPEC Hard Pre-Mount tire. These tires are available for purchase from the track.

don't forget about Greg Sharpe . we had a lot of other helping hands, especially last year.

if people have time to help with the track the best thing to do is show up - ask what you can do to help - and consistently get involved. the saturday's in April is a great time to get involved, meet everyone, and help fix up our racing facility.

It would be great to have you race with us!!

Once April comes around we can start cleaning up
And getting the track ready. It shouldn't take long.

Thanks for all the info.
Dave and I are in need of a whole lot of practice. We were hoping to be out there with gloves, scarves..... in February. LOL I understand racing on a cold surface would be similar as to racing on ice.

I will need tires. We are signing up and we will also be watching the site for the work detail dates.
Thanks again

We have been building our cars to the ROAR rules.

Come practice with us at Horsham R/C for the time being. You can get used to driving the cars and then make minor changes to get them to run well outdoors.

Ditto to what Jon said. You won't be able to get much good practice without the track being at least blown off, there is lots of little debris that will just chew up gears and bearings. Not to mention the colder temps will make all the plastic parts on the car much more brittle.

Come on out to horsham, you can get in some good practice and helpful setup tips so you can hit the ground running once outdoor season starts!

I don't think I need to twist Dave's arm to go. We need all the practice we can get. I think we need to practice on a quiet day before eliminations. This way we only have to worry about the two of us on a track. LOL

Sounds like a plan. I will check there schedule. I think the first couple of batteries, we will look like drunks driving. Will be entertaining to those watching. :-)

Thanks again. My ESC, battery strap and gears arrive on Tuesday (1-29-13). I will be ready to race on Wed.

Are there many electric outlets for the racers? The reason I ask is, I am wondering if I should invest in a small generator.

Thanks

we have electric -- enough to support 90+ racers. you should 'invest' in:

1- table
2- chair
3- extension cord
4- ez-up

And when you arrive at Jackson - we will have most of the 'final' components that you need - spec tires, music, a close competition. I would recommend you pick up two outdoor/asphalt racing specific -

#1 trinity / epic buggy grip 2 --- for cleaning rubber tires
#2 trinity / epic tire tweak 2000 --- for rubber tire traction compound

We don't use either of these fluids indoors at Horsham, nor do we stock/sell this items at Jackson. We don't specify a tire traction outdoors -- but these are highly recommended (aka what worked best for the last few years no matter the temp, or sun conditions).
