Point Series Race

Good day. Can some one tell me how a point series race works??

Also, what happens during a point series race when the track has as an example, 100 people on one race day, and 50 people on the other and 25 people on the next and on the last day have say 200 people show up??

How are the points laid out to handle all the racers.
