Track location: West Babylon, New York (Long Island, about 30 miles east of New York City)
Classes raced: All electric on road classes. Oval as well.
Season length: Year round, although the summer is slower.
Average number of paying participants during one week: 50 for a regular race, 100 for a trophy race (these are generous estimates)
Population with 35 miles (and this is the scary part):
Within 35 miles I would guess 4 million
If you include NYC 8 million.
If you include the entire metro NYC area it becomes 12 million!!! And this track is known for attaracting racers who travel 200 miles or more for a trophy race!
And there's an indoor off road track within 5 miles of this carpet track.
The next nearest indoor carpet track is about 100 miles away (RC Madness, Enfield, CT. if someone knows of a track closer please post it)

Thank you, thank you, and thank you to the three that replied. To the the 67 that didn't and the the 1000 that couldn't bother reading, and to the local aroararacing.org forum, heck with yall. Your responses are the straw that put this feasability over the top. Much like any wise business man I will steer clear of this niche market where the majority like most people on the street want things handed to them on a silver platter. I'm guessing democrats.........

You thought that RC racing wasn't a niche market? About 90% of RC cars will never see an organized race... and in many cases they won't even see a track.
I'm fairly certain that people aren't opening hobby shops/tracks to become millionaires.
Good Luck on what ever type of business you decide to open.
Maybe you should open up a fishing store?

Also, the information you are asking for is probably not even kept by distributors or major companies. Most of the "90% of cars never see the track" business is an estimation. No one knows for sure, or at least they are not telling.
