Anyone gear the 17.5 for max speed?
I ran.. Old LRP TC-Spec Speedo (pre SPX-boosted) w/ old LRP X11 17.5

Started out geared at 5.3 Lots of punch on the infield.. 155deg. temps at end of 8+ minutes.. got pulled on the straights so i gear up to 5.0. (max temp i read all day was 201deg. after a lengthy 9+ min run) Still decent on infields, can hold off and/or dead even with others on the straights. A couple missiles out there still (Tekin non-boost profile runners and SPX runner) but i could sucker-them into dots to make a gap between us..

A fun day of testing all-in-all..Interesting to see different peoples approach to this brushless thing..

Side note.. One guy was running a "Funny Four-Slot" silver can... OMG Fast!!! We were neck n neck..

Hey Orlando,
I wasn't suckered in I wanted to hit those dots!
Craig,
I was gearing in 4.0 range and very fast in the straight temp around 125F. after about 10 min. Then tried 4.8 and picked up a little in the infield but lost a lot of top end.
Lots of fun up until I stripped the idler gear or counter gear, whatever it's called that drive the diff gear. Ordered the new black gears. Their suppose to be stronger! We'll see!
I also tried the FWD body Golf GTI. I was running the Skyline and it was dialed but when I switch to the Golf the backend wanted to come around and lots of steering, too much, made some adjustments but still on the edge.
If your going to race FF03 at Tamiya, you better get FWD bodies figured out, including me!

Hey Max,
The 4.0 and 4.8 gearing was on what motor? I'm assuming that was a 17.5?
Kinda already saw that those numbers won't hang for a 21.5.

I'm still feelin that wingless FWD bodies are gonna be hurtin for rear grip other than at Tamiya's track which seems to let us get away with less wing due to the fact that it isn't a "sticky" track.
Sticky tracks seem to make this car oversteer like mad.
Obviously the winged bodies are a huge benefit.

Yo, Jimmy/racecrafter, how's the reaction of these FF03s on the carpet at TQ?
Any special setup or preferred bodies to get em around there?
How bout motor choice? 21.5 or 17.5? No boost I hope.

My Golf was 'stuck' at CalRC in the first practice rounds during the F'n Race, Was on par with Mike Ricka (sp)... It wasnt till i tried to make it 'faster' to corner good like the winged racers that it started falling apart, traction rolled at times too.. weird.. lol.. more corner speed with no wing, no bueno.. lol

So your saying it was stuck but only til you made it faster?

Yeh, I remember Mike's car was dialed with the Golf body when I was practicing with him too, forgot about that.
Maybe it's just the kit's Civic body that sucks, long wheelbase, no wing...
Just putting a wing on it made it pretty good, putting a Porsche body on it made it awesome then putting on the WRC Ford Focus body on it settled it in between the two.

Yo Craig,

I ran my FF03 at TQ this last Sunday. Same set-up as Cal Raceway. Changed form the Mid wheelbase / Porsche body to Long wheelbase / Peugeot 306 body, Tamiya Type B's left over from Nats and silver can motor and it ran pretty good. NO traction roll !

Thanks Kevin.

Good to know, hoping it wasn't gonna need a bunch of voodoo to run on carpet.
Now, bout that silver can, here we go again.
Tell me that isn't the required motor.
21.5 allowed?

This is just for discussion.

With the 2011 TCS season quickly approaching, usually starting in February or March, has anyone heard anything about whether the Tamiya brushless systems have or have not been approved yet?

With about three months until the first regional race, you'd think there would be some sort of update on the testing process. Also, once they are approved, do you think there will be enough systems too purchase or will some racers have to miss the first couple of races until they are more widely available.

Will the supply meet the demand???

I have been able to race the series in my part of the country for all of the 16 years that TCS has been around. It would be unfortunate if I could not attend this years regional because of the new motor system rules.

I fully support Tamiya and all that they have done for the sport. i wouldn't have 16 + years in the series if I didn't.

Just looking for an update with a couple of obvious questions. Thanks.
