Here's a zip file of the rules prior to your arrival in Japan. The first morning is spent in a driver's meeting and there, they give you a package containing more information regarding very detailed rules, race procedures, and all the other good stuff. Again, this should get you started...

Man, a 6.55 ratio? With a black can? That sounds undergeared severly.

I haven't received the official rules yet for 2004 but Fred sent us the one from last year. I think it's also the one Rod posted above...

NICE!!! Looks like the 415 and/or EvoIII will be permitted in GT2 following the rules last year... I wonder if they'll allow even the Evo IV... Rod... so did people actually use the EvoIII in GT2? (BTW, Rod... your long post above is very entertaining; With your vivid descriptions, I can actually picture you and Brian doing several bottoms up gulping those beers... have you ever thought of writing for RC Driver? I'm sure Gary will hook you up... )

This tread is moving too fast. I can't keep up.

2003 Rule 3.3 "All windows and wing must be painted"

Wouldn't that look Ghetto!@@!

Last year was a closed endbell motor for GT1. If the rules are the same this year, does anybody have a old Stock Motor Lathe that I can borrow???

Rule 5.3 "Only Tamiya Tire Warmer (item #49259) can be used"

$$ Ouch $$

The guys in Stockton better take it easy on me this season. It's gonna be their 19 turn motors and sorex tires versus my Tamiya 23 turn and Tamiya tires.

Rod - thanks for the info. I'm gonna need all the help I can get. I'm also going to stock up on Team USA clothing.

"5.3 Only Tamiya Tire Warmer (item #49259) can be used."

Oooo yeah, Izzy has one... NICE!!! Time to edit more of the KO and Nats DVD... hehehe, maybe he'll lend it to me in time for the Worlds!

"7.1 No cleaner materials other than Tamiya RC cleaner spray (item #87039) can be used."

What about this rule? Are those sprays like regular motor sprays? How are we to clean the motors... Calling Mr. Garber, we'll need your help on those black cans pls!!!

Ling...use Tamiya Window Tint in a spray can. You can put a very light coat so long as it isn't clear.

Eeyan, I think a TA04 won GT2 last year driven by Marc Fischer and he was running the BIG tires...hmmm.

Gary, I agree...I cans't right neways

Edit: Ling, they provide you with alcohol based motor spray and hand cleaner. If you can get one of your hosts to make a run to a hobby shop, see if they can pick up some real motorspray for you Another tip, there is a small bathroom along the all that you are pitted near. Find it early for whatever purposes, and it'll save the long walks across the exhibition floor.

"7.1 No cleaner materials other than Tamiya RC cleaner spray (item #87039) can be used." at the track hehe...

I'll see if I can dig one up for you. But if it was a Type R motor, that was rebuildable. I think that was the same one we used in 2002 in GT2 at the Nats.

I noticed those same 2 things in the rules as well and thought the painted window thing was stupid. How about the fact that it looks like you can only use Tamiya anything, from motor spray, to everything else.

One thing that popped in my mind, because I know how things have gotten twisted in the past. It says that some packs will be provided for you. The wording is very open to interpretation... it sounds like this mean that you can run them if you want to, but it doesn't sound like they're "handout batteries". Not that anything like this has happened that could cause confusion...wait, it has. I seem to remember someone telling me that when they went they had to use a Tamiya mod motor..only to find out later after they were out of the A that you had to use a Tamiya can and endbell, but you could use any armature....

Eeyan don't worry you already know how to work on the motor it is the same as the Silver can. They do mark the cans with a water based paint that if you run the motor under water it will wash off. We just gave our motors with the goop in them to Tom and Peters parents and had them break them in for us.

As far as the motor spray and tires that is the only thing you are allowed to use to clean the tires. They don't allow any other motor sprays like Rod said. I prefer to clean my hands with Simple Green though and dang it if I can't keep it from getting on objects all over my pit while cleaning up.

The painted windows just is reference to tinted windows get some of the spray cans that Fred has there at TA.

This is good talking before the trip up until the last few years there was no sharing for the newly crowned winners. It is a big step off that plane when you arrive.

Someone asked why Rod looked so tired before now we know trips to others room, Asahi, and Y1000 cards at the elevator

1 minute??!!!
That's not much time

Ok, so I'll paint "tint" the windows and the wing, but I'll leave the rest of the body unpainted yeah, that's save some mass.

Kinda confused about the battery rule. They are somewhat vague.

To the past chumps:
What inserts are supposed to work with the "Tall" Type A tire?
Are we limited to Tamiya Inserts??

Did they have handout batteries at the J-land race? I thought I heard they did but, the rules seems to say they don't. I guess their rules are a little confusing at best.

rtypec - Did you have a trench coat on when you went to the bathroom?

Linger - Not a Chump. Don't know on the inserts. The last ones I did were for the rally class. I ended up butchering foams and 24mm inserts until I got the right feel. You probably could to soak the 26mm tires overnight with your favorite compound in a plastic baggie.

Seems like the Samari guards are only at the track....
