That however doesn't mean I should drop $500 just to get my feet wet. If I find I need to spend more to be competitive that's fine, but let's find out if I need to spend more FIRST before just spending for the sake of burning up dollars.
djfourmoney,
Look man, you have been given a lot of advice. Most of it is good and very little of it contradictory. It seems you have taken the best of it to heart and are on the road to making some purchasing decisions. The last thing you need to be doing is offering, implying or suggesting insults (intended or not) to people (who you do not know) that are trying to help you out.

Slow down on the posts already. Go to your local hobby store, get the stuff to get your TL-01 going and run some laps around water bottles in a parking lot and let the TL-01 take the beating of a learning curve. Then go for the the phase II car for TCS. Drop us a note when you get there and let us know how it went.

OK, I'll lighten this back up a bit...

I'm asking this here since TCS guys I've come across seem to really know which Tamiya bodies work best in certain situations.

I'm about to get an IFS-R to club race in stock class. After running USVTA and most recently RCGT, I've become fond of realistic-looking bodies and am reluctant to go back to racing blobs.

Will a Tamiya IFS-specific body work well for 17.5 racing on asphalt? I'm OK with sacrificing a little performance in favor of realism, but not so much as to significantly handicap myself. Which IFS body works best (NSX 2007?) or should I just stick to the shoebox?

i didnt get to meet you at the T4T RCGT race... NSX bodies are really good. there's some "cooler" looking bodies like the 350z and Lexus SC. the one thing you'll notice is each body has different handling characteristics.

IFS bodies are hella cool. esp the garaiya (sp?) and the ebbro. the '07 NSX just looks mean and is super slammed to take advantage of the lower IFS front end.

F1 Update

The M-Type body sets should be in before the first TCS race, but you will probably have to order them on our website to get them in time.

did tamiya have a bad run of molds? this tt01 i just got direct from them (the 75$ benz--my 6th TT) is the worst kit i've ever dealt with in terms of QC. the chassis and rear prop joint were already warrantied successfully. but the upper arm holders and both main bulkheads are in horrible shape in terms of their tolerance. even after checkin and scoring for all flash. i can still set my car at ride height without shocks!!!! complete with a 4200 sittin the car.

alas, more work to be done. granted now if i glue em in and make it a pan car, i wont have to worry bout down travel lol.

OK, now I went off on a web tangent looking at the TCS site and I'm thinking about entering GT-2 for the upcoming Aliso race. Is it crazy competitive? Novak or LRP? Is GT-2 the right place for an intermediate club racer?

I have a TA05 I could run in GT-3 as well if you can run more than one class.

I picked up a Radio System (Airtronics Blazer), Radio Shack 3300mah Battery ($32, before you laugh its GP cells!) and their Quick Peak Detection Charger for $9, been proven to do said battery to a full charge in about 22 mins.

This is mainly for practice, but the Tamiya track has plenty of AC outlets according to the web page just a lack of work tables.

I also ordered a NIB TB-02 Raybrig NSX off Ebay for $85 shipped.

I had a LRP Runner Plus A.I ESC but reverse is not defeatable, so I took it back and I'll pick up a Duratrac Intellispeed 18T tomorrow.

I'm thinking about updating the TB-02 to the Lightweight Reversible Suspension and whatever bearings the R has but the Standard car doesn't. I won't upgrade beyond that until I know what all the adjustment do to performance.

Hebiki, can you help a brotha set my TB-02 for GT-3? You like Vandread man? lol
