Doc, I totally agree with you on the silver can debate.

A couple years ago we decided to do a random draw motor rule in the Mini class at Trackside. At the beginning of the night everyone tossed a silver can motor into a box. Then they were ever so gently mixed up and everone got to blind draw one out for the night. For some reason Dave Weir just kept winning the class, even with someone elses motor. Go figure

Agree with the silver can comments of Doc. Soon I will join him in the ranks of the "older racer".

Blind motor draws will keep the MINI MAYHEM event (October 6-7 at Trackside) competitive for all, we would love to see more entries.

As for my winning the weekly mini class, that was in the "good ol younger days." Now some young whippersnapper tends to win instead of me, and I have to give him a ride home each night and hear about it! Last night I we went to practice, on the same track that Dad had low 16's last week, and of course Nathan had to get his 15.9 before he was satisfied. Dang!

Although you did forget can squeezing, rare earth magnets and for mini using only 1 screw to get a bigger gear on.

Seems like each year there is something new that people try and get away with to gain an "advantage". I wish there was an easier solution or a "cheat"-proof motor system that came down to driving and chassis setup skill. Maybe the BL/Lipo deal might afford that? Then again it might just change and promote newer skills in the black art of gaining speed....

I don't think of GT3 as a novice class. It is a class that promotes smoothness, motor breakin techniques and chassis setup. Like Doc eluded to it is a class I can run the same tires and motor all season. The funny thing about the motors I ran one all last summer and winter, maybe 15ish race days. The numbers were the same when I 1st broke it in and dynoed it a year prior, which blew my mind.... if anybody has seen my mind... let me know.

Thanks Dan, I was really worried you were comparing my driving skill to that of a five week newbie. So, Can I run Spec and GT-1 at the SIR regional in '08 ?

Doc - would you like your fish broiled or baked over a roasting pile of wrongly geared silver cans ? PS - DO I qualify for the "Master's Class" age group now ? Sounds so much better than the "seniors class".

Anyway, The Novak race at Trackside may have a masters class this Jan. Doc, you game? 1st weekend in Jan. Speed week starts the 29th this year, YEE HAA!! Start honing your carpet skills for the worlds. Remember, no traction compound. Any SIR racers coming this year? You know you are ALLWAYS welcome!

On silver cans, I have been accused of cheating as many times as the next guy. All I ever did was water dip and gear to let'um breath. I only got fast when I learned how to drive. Same motors, better set-up, better skills and all of a sudden I was a motor cheater...lol One night I even took a silver can motor out of the garbage can and TQ'd and won with it at F-1 oval, but that is another story.

Funny how now after reaching 50+ I have forgotten how to drive. Doc is correct, old = slower. Really, I used to be fast, really...... lol

Don't get me wrong, you need a good silver can, but as in all racing, the motor is not everything.

Jeff, if you want motor parity, I hear brushless is the way to go. Not quite perfect, but very close.

In case you have not heard, (I know, old news) TSC just may have a brushless, lipo, TA 05 class next year. I would think that only leaves set-up, tuning and heaven forbid, driver skill as the variables. I say, "BRING IT ON".

This is for anyone and everyone who wants give input or support.
While at the nats this year, I asked Fred if he would be willing to look at a return to Larry's in Detroit for next season. He said he would. Now for a short history lesson. Larry's was one of the original sites when TCS first went on the road back in 1994. The relationship between the store and Tamiya has had its ups and downs. The last event that Larry hosted was deemed a disaster by some that attended, due to a last minute change of venue. One of Larry's hangups from the last go around was that as of the Friday before the race there were only 8 racers preregistered. He would like to have more upfront signups should he get a race date. I have spoken with Larry as well and he said he would be up for hosting another event if Tamiya would grant him the honor. He has a great store, with a good amount of Tamiya products and parts, as well as every other R/C product that you could ever want and a nice carpet track with plenty of pitspace . It would be nice to have another midwest site besides Trackside. We had WOH , but that track is sadly no longer around.
Let me know what you think, as the time to bid for race dates is now. And thanks in advance for your input.

Yep, the fastest way to be called a cheater is to start winning.

I'm all for the Brushless Lipo GT4/Formula GT class next year. That will lighten my bags by about 10 lbs!

I'm all for a Mo-town TCS, Brad! Detroit is one of only a few places where I can actually get a direct flight from Huntsville! Maybe I could even work it into a business trip and get the company to fly me there!

With Silver can motors they are only going to be so good
I know All of us at one point in time have been told we were cheating
and can't tell you how {{Mini}} haha i been call that
but if the car is working how can one cheat???Just some people are just fast.
I have taken other peoples cars and changed the setup and thay win a race
Heck in most local races i'm working on there cars to make it easy for them to drive,and injoy what they are doing..
I think that is why i got out!! To many people wanting to win a race before they know how to race!!!
I my years at RC racing I've seen many people come and go due to not winning ,with all the high dollor gear that they thought would make them win and i think that is what killed our racing here..

There are many people who would like to race, enjoy racing and would like to participate in the TCS. They have experience, but don't spend as much time and money on their cars. They are not novices. GT3 should be that class, but it has become highly competitive. There is nothing wrong with that. I've run the TCS and I run GT3. At certain tracks the drivers will put you into the wall or boards when striving for that prestigious "C" Main victory. There are many drivers who would like to participate. They enjoy racing and they are Tamiya fans. They don't want to hinder the more competitive drivers. In the TCS there should be a place for them. It will increase the participation and eventaully many of those drivers would move up. This is one of the groups the TCS was set up for.
