Thats on the other extreme end, but it is true that older stuff can sometimes be faster. For the nats 2 years ago I built a brand new 201 just for the race and guess where it sat for most of the weekend? in the box. The one qualifier I did drive it it was so horrible I pulled it early. Tires do tend to last loger on carpet, and TA is fairly abrasive, but tires are good for more than 1 run. This is why I dont understand the whole foam thing, buy a brand new set of tiresput them right on the truer and turn half of it into dust, yeah makes a ton of sense

So will the other "pair" be his Birthday present. BTW - since you work sooooooo far away, should I ship them now so you have them by January ?

Something I have learned about the tire discussions on this thread is that the opinions seem to be greater between indoor carpet and outdoor asphalt people. Not having raced carpet before, it seems you can pretty much run the same tire all year long at the same track and yes they will last much longer than on asphalt or concrete. The double edge sword to "spec" tires almost reared it's ugly head this year at the Reedy Race at Tamiya end of May. The spec tire was the RP-30's. Guys were testing with them 1-2 weeks before and as hot as it was, they were literally 1-run tires. The air temp alone dropped 10+ degrees the week of the race and the RP-30's turned out OK.

I will say the good thing about a spec tire is that its mounted with an insert and they are the same! It really helps in the "Rookie" type classes because it makes the descision for them as far as tire/insert...lets them concentrate on gearing/set up. More advanced classes or "Mod" I believe in a more use what makes ya fast type mentality.

Now I need to pick up an F201! But do I run M04, or M03?

I couldn't find the schedule. Did I miss something, or are the new rules the only thing posted?

Just heard from the Memphis boys that they changed their date to April 30th, so no more HOT pavement.

Any word from Ohio and Maryland?
