I think with this recurring issue and something that discourages participation the easiest thing to do would be to allow the local track owners to decide on legal motors or Tamiya should come up with a list of acceptable 21.5 fixed timing motors other than the Reedy. You have Hobbywing, Ruddog, Trinity etc.

I just sent an e-mail to Fred Medel at Tamiya echoing my previous post. I will update this thread when I hear back from him. IMO, Fred is the only person who can make a change to the TCS ruleset.

The only real tricky bit there, is timing.

... someone with a motor checker, and some nail polish ~could~ make the motors match. But the TCS races are single day events, right?

As you are aware, the TCS series has migrated to a REEDY spec Fixed Timing motor for many of its race classes. This has proven successful in terms of keeping motor costs down and making racing closer. It has also eliminated the motor of the month issue as well as certain manufactures skirting ROAR Rules.

However, both Tamiya and Reedy were caught off guard on just how popular this move turned out. Supply has been limited during the kick off of the TCS season. Reedy has been working feverishly to get demand filled and I’m pleased to report that stock on the popular 21.5 version is due to arrive at the REEDY warehouse today or tomorrow. Your local shop has access to the Reedy sales department to fill their store shelves. You in turn also have the option to buy the motor direct from the Reedy website for $56.99.

For those of you looking for 17.5 and 13.5 versions, the Tamiya USA website has both in stock for $56.99 with FREE shipping. Reedy 17.5 & 13.5 Motor for sale FREE SHIPPING

We apologize for any stress the early motor shortage supplies may have caused. Rest assured, we plan to use these motors for the regionals and August Nationals for the foreseeable future.

You're stating that we should have stock we can purchase from RC10.com tomorrow. It's currently out of stock there (as that's where the reedypowered website links to..) with a expected delivery date of early febuary, which.. I believe has passed.

give the website a chance to update. Not 1 TCS race to date has been without the 21.5 motor available for purchase. Fred and reedy have done a great job of getting motors to the venues for the racers to have.

I'm sorry, but "they'll have plenty at the track" is not good enough for me to risk multiple vacation days and $500-1000 to take that kind of risk. Maybe...MAYBE I'll try to make the race in Ohio.
If you follow the link below to Reedy's site, you'll see that they still have an expected arrival time of a month ago.

Does the 21.5 Reedy FT for the M Chassis come without the gold tabs? Or do we have to remove them ourselves.

You could remove them by just touching the opposite end with a soldering iron. Took me like 20 seconds to remove all 3.

I have a GT2 rule question. I have a TA07 Pro (18/37 pulley ratio). I want to put the TA07MS 20 tooth pulley on it (20/37 ratio). Would that be legal for TCS GT2 racing?
Don't want any surprises in tech.
If it is, would it be legal to put the one piece motor plate from the TA07MS into a GT2-spec TA07 Pro?

Thanks.

Default Reedy FTM

I recently attended the Omaha TCS regional. I came to run GT pro spec and GT-2. I did not own a 21.5 fixed timing motor upon arriving to the event. Tamiya and Fred had already made preparations to have the motors on site. I promptly purchased my motors and was on my way. No one who showed up had a problem obtaining a motor at the event. A little heads up on RCTECH would have been nice. But again, no issues upon arrival. Just my $.02
