Q1 in Japan already underway. Jason in mini, Bill and Toby in sedan (Japan version of GT-2) and Timmy in sedan (Japan GT-1 version). No F1 in Japan this year but Bill and Toby made the top 10 in practice seeding in their class. They are hanging out with the three members from Team Germany. Good thin Brian and Bill from Tamiya are there to keep them out of trouble. (yes, read the sarcasm into that last sentence).

Have fun Team USA and enjoy the reward for your efforts !

And I just heard (and now watched live)...... Bill Jeric finished 2nd in the GT3 class ! Pretty awesome for an F1 driver to podium the sedan class in a car he just picked up Monday before flying to Japan on Tuesday and turning his first wheel with the car in Japan. Bill qualified second and was in second in A1 until he got taken out, worked his way back up to fifth and two drivers in front of him got penalties (including the driver who spun him) so moved up to third. In A2, he ran strong in second challenging the #1 qualifier from Korea all race finishing less than 0.5 seconds behind at the end. Toby had two 8th place finishes in the A also but a penalty in A2 moved him to 10th overall in the GT3 A.

Guys thanks for all the words of encouragement for the trip winners. It was definitely a race of a Life Time. Thank you so much to the guys at Tamiya America and Tamiya Japan for putting up this fantastic event. Special thanks to Brian and Bill for taking care of us for the entire race. It was a amazing experience and I think we did a great job representing USA in the event.

Bill Jeric gave a great speech at the beginning of the event representing all the international drivers and we all did our best in our races. Bill got second overall in a very close GT3 final. I made numerous driver errors in the Mains and got 10th overall from a qualifying position of 7th. Timmy Valles facing motor, battery, and chassis setup issues managed 2nd in the B main. Jason using the wrong wheel base and a none competitive motor and got mid pack in the M class B main finals. However for us the experience is much more important than the final result.

The driving style required to be competitive there is somewhere between 12th scale and F1 cars on carpet, or GT pro spec/12 hour endurance cars at Tamiya America. For GT3 class with 15.5 motors and 7.3 gearing, you simply had to held down the trigger thought the entire course. I only let off a little for two spots on the track and that was it. The track require a very very mild setup and very precise steering input to maintain corning speed. I finally found a good setup by the third day with help from Taka but did not get enough wheel time to get used to the new found rear grip and not very consistent overall. It is also interesting that the track prefers stiff rear springs so the rear will not washout and soft front springs to make sure the initial steering is not too aggressive. It is very counter intuitive from what sedan guys are used to.

TCS Qualifier at Hobbytown Raceway Fresno California January, 29th 2017.
I understand GT3 is being dropped in its place they are racing TT01E trucks as a box stock class.

The 2017 Rules cab be found here: http://www.tamiyausa.com/tcs/rules.php#.WEtPGuYrK70

Click the PDF file. That's the 2017 Rules. The live web pages will be changed to match the PDF file soon...

Note: There is a table of contents in the file to make it easier to find what you are looking for, and a change log so you may see what has changed for 2017, which is not really much.

Also, we are still looking at a NEW tire for the Series for certain classes. However, this has taken longer than expected, so we will continue to use the same tires for the regional races. Implementation of a new spec tire may not happen until the 2017 Finals...
