Just received entry confirmation for TCS 180, Aliso Viejo.

Your email confirming registration says:

"1. The Mini and the touring car classes (Except GT Spec Novice) normally use the control tires as out-lined in the 2013 Rules. Those part numbers are 1015 (Touring Car) and 1016 (Mini). However, these tires are currently out of stock with expected availability being just prior to the event. Because the control tires will not be available in a reasonable amount of time prior, the pre-assembled control tire requirement will be waived for this event. You may assemble your own tires to the following specifications:

· GT-1, GT-2 and GT-3 must use Tamiya B3 tires with any 0 degree offset 24mm Tamiya touring car wheel.
· Mini must use the Tamiya 60D Super Grip radials with any Tamiya M-Chassis wheel.
· Inserts – Any insert may be used as long as the standard shape and diameter of the tire is not altered by the insert."

This seems to say ONLY 60D sgrips may be used. What about the other legal mini tires, 1028 & 1029 (A slicks with soft or hard inserts)?

From the TCS Rules 2013: "Spec Tires: The Mini class must use the Tamiya pre-mounted and glued spec tires manufactured by Tamiya; items 1016, 1028 and 1029. See rule #35 under "General Rules" for specifics. Note: This rule is enforced at every TCS location."

Are the 1028 & 1029 legal for TCS #180? Not sure if they would work, but want to know if that is a legal option. Seems it should be per the general rules for 2013.

Hey all, I would like to remind all you TCS racers about our race in frederick at "the coliseum" TCS race number 179. We will be offering an Exhibition class that will be for the experienced GT-3 drivers that like the slower speed competition, as well as the FF03 guys whos no longer have a class to run, now they do. We have found they are very close in speed and lap times on our carpet surface. They will follow GT-3 rules. Normally there would not be any kind of prizes for this class, but a local TCS veteran has been very generous and decided to donate some trophies for the class.

please park in the back of the building. The doors will open at 10AM on saturday for the warm-up race and at 8AM on sunday morning for TCS day. I look forward to seeing some of you there!

Yes, Mini drivers can use either the Tamiya 60D Super Grip radials (53254) or 60D Type A slick (53340) with any Tamiya M-Chassis wheel. Any insert may be used as long as the standard shape and diameter of the tire is not altered by the insert.

Question for the seasoned guys who have run GT and mini classes. To run at a high level, is there really a price difference between Gt2 and mini? If mini were ever to change to 21.5, I feel like they would be similar. My heart wants me to stick with Gt2, but mini with a silver can looks tempting to save cash (most of budget is for short course these days). The price comparo would be building from scratch. Any thoughts?

I think mini is the the closest thing to a budget class for many experienced drivers.

I think Mini is as close as you get to budget racing in RC. I bought a used M03R for $90, threw a body on it for $45, and then picked up a cheap charger and lipo for $100 combined. The car came with a decent set of A slicks, so I didn't have to buy those.

I REALLY wish there were more budget classes, as I think that cost is the single biggest thing that hurts the popularity of the hobby. It should not cost $800 just to get started in racing. Just my $0.02.

I just noticed that there is a TCS race schedule for May 19 at TQ Hobbies. I can't make the race on April 7, so that may be the one for me. Is anyone else going to that race?

Like RedbullFixx noted, an excellent turn out in 2012 for TQ Raceways first TCS race. The track is a great indoor carpet track, has a very well stocked shop of Tamiya parts including mini parts and the joy of provided work benches, nice comfortable chairs, power strips and racing rain or shine. However, in 2012, the mini class was one of the smaller attended classes. Seems many of the Tamiya regular mini crowd did not want to try to make the switch to carpet. Hopefully a few more will be brave enough to try mini's on carpet this year.

1. Are Canadians able to register for the racers license? I cant choose the province after selecting the country.
2. Are we able to run the same chassis in both GT2 and GT1 using the 17.5t motor in both classes?
3. Since TCS in Canada has been canceled, is it possible for Canadians to run in the NA finals?
