Monkey,
Excellent point. Keep it simple. It IS Mini.
By the way, fixed-timing doesn't mean 0-timing. It just means the endbell can't be moved. I wish I knew how to check the actual timing...

Any chance we can get folks to fill in what body/chassis they ran for GT1?

Keep it simple. It's mini.
TCS Mini racing has never been simple. It probably has given Fred more grey hair than any other class. Sorry, I forgot. Caused the loss of more hair than any other class.

If it were, we'd still be using STOCK, unmolested, Silvercans. But, as we all know, that led to the magnetically enhanced motors that could turn 30k @ 7.2 v. and still meet all the established criteria for a "stock" Silvercan. This, of course, led to the rpm limits, which, by the way, is 18,750 @ 7.2v. Simple, but complicated.

The simplest solution is your suggestion, which seems to be to specify one fixed timing 17.5 motor. This may make it complicated for Tamiya as they have consider distribution and retail issues that none of us are privy to. I believe that your club has settled on one esc and motor which has proven to be successful for your club races. Unfortunately, it's a little known system with a limited distribution. Sometimes, we racers overlook the fact that Tamiya is a business and that these considerations have consequences.

It seems that the longer I participate in the TCS series, the fewer complaints I have. I do, however, reserve the "right" to post an occasional observation.

Hi Bob, thanks for clarifying the hair and voltage situation. I've got a lot of respect for someone who has to put up with as much flack as Fred does.

Based on the actual numbers and not my dumbass guesstimate, we're looking at something around 2600kv. Tamiya should be able to source that and put a sticker on it. Then again, maybe they're as strangled by contractual partnerships as the hobby shops are.

We're very happy with our 2200kv spec systems here. They're perfect for what we do. The mini class has grown in a big way this season and no one complains about motors anymore. I'm a little sad to see the silver can go. It's a motor with over 50 years of history. At least I've still got one in my Swiffer vac, cordless drill, blow dryer...
