Wink Spec Tire Follow up

As far as it goes with the spec tires, I too like that we no longer need to guess what the best insert combo will be for racing, and of course all of those slightly run B3's can still be used for run races and practice.

Two years ago, I laid out a few bucks and bought more tires than I really should have. It has actually lasted up until this past season, so now that pre-mounts are the only choice, and I am out of tires, the timing is just right for me. I know this doesn't help you any, but it's my 2 cents.

I would imagine at least 4. I will probably avoid the F1 fun. Would like to see AlexV 'do work' there. Probably GT1 for me

What is the situation there for pit areas?

Pit space should be no problem, I think we have close to 100, power at each one, just bring chairs.

Good for you and bad for many others stuck with tires now. Oh, and if you read RC tech enough, you would have seen more than a few posts that most TC guys ran Much-More Pink inserts at Aliso. In fact, I ran the same tire / insert combo at Aliso Viejo, Nor Cal TCS (both Nor Cal Hobbies and Fremont Hobby People) and SIR in Seattle on both the asphalt and carpet layouts. As for guessing the best insert combo, I guess our lazy politically correct society has forgotten what it is like to actually try to figure something out on their own and test. Dare I say trying something and failing sometimes is what real life is all about ? So much easier to sit back and be "given" and not work for. That is what has gotten us into this mess of so much spec stuff that is actually increasing the cost of TCS, not lowering it. GT-1 and GT-2 rules have not be stable from one year to the next for the last three to four years all in the name of making it "fair for all" and slowing the cars down because they are getting just to fast to race (isn't racing about getting better and going faster ?). How many people now have 10.5 and 13.5 motors collecting dust ? And if you run the only brushless class this year, GT-1, you will be buying either a new motor, a new esc or both because I guarantee you that nobody was competitively racing GT-1 or GT-2 last year with any of this years listed esc's. And if you ran a non-timing 17.5 motor last year with a boosted esc, you will be buying a new motor because you will not keep up with an advancable timing motor with no-boost esc's.

Here's a great idea for 2012, run out of the box XB built cars that you "rent" at the track and return at the end of the race day. Isn't that as spec as you can get ? Don't worry, if they really did that, people would still find an excuse why they got beat because it could not be that someone actually out drove them. Had to be that secret tire sauce or they had better batteries or did something to their car / motor to make it faster or......
