Do you mark your new Rims/tires & then rotate them at any stage,

I rotate my tires both left to right and front to back. Everyone calls me insane for doing so, it seems the common practice is to move the rears to the fronts and put a fresh pair on the rears (disposing of the old fronts).

Rotating can be very tricky, especially if you have passed the tipping point of wear.

For carpet I rotate left/right. Since I have glue on the fronts I don’t rotate front to back. But I do combine old rears to make a full set if the rear tires didn’t wear as quick as the fronts. Some people swear by never rotating a tire, but I think that it is more superstitious than beneficial. My car always drives the same with the same lap times. Also, I run my tires until the ring of death splits on one.

I rotate as well and was surprised to hear from the local fast guys that they do not. One of the reasons they say is because they glue the front sidewalls (for black carpet) for their, TC and USGT cars differently.

Anyone replace their USGT rubber with new rubber? Or is it not worth the time of effort?

I do it all the time. Check your rims to make sure they are not cracked. Throw your rims / tires in a plastic zip bag with some acetone, don't need a lot. Let it sit in the bag for 2 or 3 days, turn it over a couple times.

Is it worth it, you have to decide. I have plenty of free time and unmounted tires are $10 off a mounted set. I don't break rims as much as I used too, so I have more sets to recycle.

If you rotate left to right, the inserts are going to be off most of the time. Most guys don't do this because it takes a few runs to get them "run in" on the opposite side of the car. Front to back is not as bad.
