Default Mikes Hobby shop - Porter/Houston TX

whats the deal with the place? Went to watch what is raced on the weekend, and saw minimal participation, maybe 5-6 F1, 3 ea 1/8 On Road, 2 ea TC cars on the on road track. Over at the offroad track, it was only 1 Nitro Buggy and 1 E-Buggy.

This place could be something. Even host a run what you brung, spec class racing... A shame really, the state of both tracks!

They only race On Road a few times a year. The weather has to be perfect. A few of the guys are trying to change that though with racing on Saturdays and a backup rain out day of Sunday. Thing is, the track owners don't want to do any prep work on the track so that leaves racers footing the bill and doing it all in addition to paying their race fees. The offroad program has a decent turnout on Friday nights.

Thats too bad. If they had a run what you brung day, or invest it would be great. From what i seen the offroad track needs a bit of grooming, but being covered is a huge plus. Sounds like poor management!

04 Oct. 2018 (RedRC.net news)
"The Gulf Coast Raceways in Porter, Texas and the Thornhill Racing Circuit in Hutto, Texas recently played host to the first ever Texas Two Step race. It was setup like the Pro-Line duel race in California. The scoring would be combining your results from Saturday and Sunday to make an overall. Friday was practice at either track with Saturday being raced at the Gulf Coast Raceway and Sunday things would decide at the Thornhill track...."

I've only been there twice, not racing though, and both times, the off road track was BUSY.

Management..... AND the racers....

Dirt needs a lot more WORK then carpet

so racers need to help management with track repair / maintenance

after one day of racing.. 40 to 60 RC trucks... it takes 4 guys 2 hours to get track back to good racing condition... volunteers do all the work
if 8 guys would show up.. only 1 hour of work would be needed.

so my view... if more racers helped with track work.. more people would race..
RC racing since 1991.

I have seen W A Y to many tracks CLOSE..

From what i understand they do a horrible job promoting. And that Mike is kept out of the loop. I think if they listened to their patrons to both tracks they would do better. Now they are going to expand i hear to have a 1/10 offroad track I hear.
