RCTech needs help...

Seems like its time to get off VBulletin and move to something more modern and maintainable. Its 2022 for crying out loud and we still have problems like this???

I was just thinking the same thing.....
Facebook has all but replaced it.
But....
The upside of this site is the iTrader system. I think there are more people here with integrity than on Facebook where it's a damn free for all. People are always getting scammed over there.
Here, I have more sense of security knowing that 99% of people are on the up and up. At least that's been my experience over the last 10-15 years.

Yep, Facebook has a search, even within groups which is very handy but no one seems to know it......

Terrible or not, many of us rely on it in the for sale section. Especially now that eBay, OfferUp and others 1099 sellers. 🤔
Paypal will 1099 you too and the threshold is lower in some states. But for any of the 1099's you get from selling stuff you do have to list them when you file your taxes but you can do a separate entry for each one with a negative amount the same as on the 1099 to cancel it out. It falls under the electronic garage sale umbrella for people that aren't in business but are selling their old stuff. I found out about how to do it from a TurboTax advisor. Just in case anybody was paying extra taxes on stuff like where they shouldn't be.

Some of us left Facebook and refuse to go back. So unless Musk buys Facebook and fires the entire staff, I’m staying off.

This forum works fine for me, just would like the search function back.

You don’t need millions in revenue to fix something that was working. It’s a functionality of the service

The thing that scares me about this is I've been on 2 other forums for different hobbies that have gone the same route of not keeping up to date and fixing things and both of those sites ended up getting hacked. I know the last site was a ransom hack. It ended up coming back completely new and different because they didn't have offsite backups and the auto-backups got encrypted or something. It sucked because like 16 years of readily accessible info and history got deleted. I would like them to stay vigilant here so nothing like that happens.

Yes thats the sad part is FB has replaced the forums.. But its not just FB /instagram, Its You tube.. Thats also become a depository of RC knowledge..any of us that were on here 10 years ago vs today can see just by the numbers this site is nowhere near as active as it was a decade ago .. Its not just this forum that has stagnated , its all of them.. Places like Hobby talk havent had an RC related post in the forums in years .. its become a site for hot wheels and diecast guys.. People forget that these things are advertiser driven and all about site traffic . And I totally agree I WONT buy from FB sellers, or will I sell on FB due to getting offers from every 10 yr old with a computer wanting to know if I will take $10 for that thing I have listed for $200... Or it least it seemed that way when I quit selling on there.. LOL

Problem today with social media is that anyone can start a channel. Many of them see the big money some vloggers and influencers have and so with RC you do see the same. The same with video reviews, if the text under the video has loads of afiliate links you know the review is made to sell items and so the product must get a positive review, even if it is bad. Then plenty of people that go beyond limits to get subscribers and views with demolishing RC cars and weird giveaways. For someone who has to learn it is not easy to find the real knowledge between all the crap that is published.....
Even on large FB groups I do see moderators and admins having a lack of knowledge where still many people do follow their advise.

I agree wholely.. Some of the experience just in this thread shows the difference between forums and FB .. Just looking at some of the join dates here tells the story of how long some of us have been in the hobby and the knowledge that accompanies that kind of experience.. FB groups have become nothing but you tubers trolling social media for views making the same video that 100 others have made.. No real advice or problem solving if you will like you find here .. No real discussions..
