Nice job!
Especially for first time out with the camera.

What kind of equipment did you use?

If you are able to open up your aperature so that your depth of field is smaller, that will make the cars pop off of the background... but of course it will be much harder to get shots in focus when the cars are going fast.

Nice. Compensate with faster iso for less F stop (lower f blurs the background). OR buy a faster lens, maybe around 2.8 f stop $$$. Side effect of faster iso is noise. Faster lens + slower iso = less noise. The way the colors pop, I would guess you used some flash to help speed up the iso. Nice work!
