Default TCS Photos

Photos from a recent TCS race nearby. All were shot with a Canon D30 w/EF 70-200 f4 USM lens. Shutter set between 1/100 and 1/125, lots of practice panning.

Pics look good! but you shoulda tried a faster shutter for those panning shots, it woulda gotten the cars a bit clearer..

Yeah, I've been fooling around a bit with a variety based on suggestions from another forum, but haven't quite hit the mark yet. The first pic was taken during my first session using manual settings, with a goal of trying to get the blurred wheel & background. The second and fourth were taken during a subsequent shoot with some adjustments in settings. Unfortuantely huge swings in light messed with me all day.

What were your settings for the pic you posted? That's exactly the look I'm trying for. Looks like your must have been shot late in the day, but still with plenty of sun?

I beleive that shot was around 1/400 and f/8 for the aperture.

Aside from the settings on the camera, I cannot stress enough how you must be smooth with your motion when panning with the cars. if you have trouble, a monopod helps a great deal (I have one and don't use it because when I shoot, I go all over the place, but I can keep the camera steady with my hands).

and yeah, that shot was late in the day when the sun was setting.

Default Charity Race

Pics from a charity race held in Laurel last weekend. Taken with a Canon D30 set for shutter=1/200, aperature=18, asa=400. Will bump up the shutter speed more next time to try for more clarity in the car, but trying not to lose the blurred background while panning.
