decals and clear
Is there a good technique to make the decals look more finished? I mean, when they are applied to the outside of the shell they often look, well, like stickers. Would it help to clear over the exterior of the shell? And would it matter if the shell has a finish coat on the exterior?

The only advice I can give is to carefully trim the decal with good scissors, so that none of the clear material is left around the graphic of the decal, then apply them to the shell. That way they don't jump out as being decals. Clean the body with denatured alcohol, and keeping your fingers off of the adhesive will make them adhere better longer.
