Default JP Concepts

Hey everyone, I'm just getting started in R/C Airbrushing. I mostly do bodies for local racers and friends but I am also open to painting for others. I started JP Concepts as a custom programming venture (Phones, websites, and desktop pc) and decided to add airbrushing in there too.

Here are my top creations so far

Why thank you! I'm gonna wait a bit before I order my 408. Whatever you do, plan your lines carefully and stay away from that top scoop... lol. So far this was the hardest body I have done.

Painted a test body for a friend to try some new effects, paints, and under coating. Everything came out great... but the under coating.

Dang clear coat...

You know, that "mess up" would look pretty cool is you used some cement looking colors or rock colors and used that backing to make it crack. Itd look like breaking rocks.

Ya, I thought so too, but it actually lifted the paint off the body so you can just brush it off with your finger.

That result would be a wonderful "learning lesson" for others who come here to see it. If you would list what paints and clearcoat you used, it would benefit other people, who could avoid the same problem.

It seems to be more of a how I did it and not what I did lol. I sprayed the clear on a test panel that had been sprayed a few days ago and it was fine.

The body was painted with Createx Airbrush Colors line and the clear was Krylon Acrylic Crystal Clear Flat.

It seemed to only mess up the last layer of paint in areas that I sprayed a bit heavy to help add some protection (sides, grill area, fender wells). I honestly think that it was a combo of only letting the paint dry for a hour and laying it on too thick.

I usually use 5604 Createx Airbrush Colors Gloss Top Coat because it is very flexible but, I don't like spraying it thru my airbrush and I don't have enough compressor to push my touch up gun.

Thanks for the more detailed review of the misfortune.

It often happens that the "one extra shot" from the spray can kills the basecoat. I've done it myself. Now I tell myself "light coats, build it up" before I make the first sealing coat with the rattle can. It's far too easy to mess it up with the agressive solvents in some spray cans.

Here's hoping you never have that problem again.

Keep on sprayin' and posting!

It's best to let the water-based paint dry (cure) at least 24 hours before you spray it with CrystalClear.

While dry to the touch quickly it still has to cure.

Got some nice shots from Kasee Burwell from last weekend. Heres a few shots of Dustyn Maston's HPI Blitz and Team Durango DESC410r.

DESC410r

Heres a video of Dustyn in the Pro 2 A-Main. The Race director made me hold his car in the pit lane and start 1/2 a lap down.

On the clear protective paint layer. That looks like it was sprayed on too heavy and this will cause it to shrink as it dries and pull the previous paint up as it does.

Just spray it in 2-3 lighter coats and it will work fine. If you need it built up more, spray more light coats, but never too heavy at one time.
