This compressor made by Iwata has dual lines and regulators to run 2 brushes. Another painter on these boards had bought one and said it is quieter than the brush itself!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...143078832&rd=1

I have heard great feedback on the silair models as well, less than 40db

http://www.diy-compressors.com/shop/...ompressors.htm

I am currently using a 20lb CO2 tank which is noiseless but it gets tiresome running out to the welding shop to get it filled or exchanged particularly since it has a habit of running out at 3am in the middle of a job and they don't open till 8. I am building my own silent compressor from used parts. Got a 1/4 horse hermetic compressor of a freezer and using an old 10lb fire extinquisher as a tank.

ouch!, that iwata is just out of my price range. Thanks for the links Qranc, do you have any others that ship to US. It looks like DYI won't.
I should have stated this before but I was trying to keep the price down to under $200. I know this severly cuts down the field of choices but I don't need a "professional" compressor. Just something that will give me 40 psi and not sound like a jackhammer bouncing across my floor.

charlie_b / Cosmo , what are you guys using?

I use a Campbell Hausfeld FP2020. Loud, but works great.

These guys I think are in houston:

http://www.silentaircompressor.com/scorpion.htm

I don't know what the scorpion compressors go for but the scorpion II is the same as the Parma faskolor and the createx compressors but unfortunately they look to be near the $300 range as well which in that price range the Iwata compressor is a much better deal with the tank and more hp.

Heres what the parma is going for:

http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/par/par40259.htm

at dixie art they are selling it for 189.00 and they ship for free:

http://www.dixieart.com/Silentaire_S...mpressors.html

The super silentair's are in the $500 range so that I would assume is out of the question. You can browse from the home page of each of the links and check out the other options for silent compressors.

You can find the little Iwata compressors like the smart jet on Ebay for under $100 I think or the sprint jet:

http://www.iwata-medea.com/products/...smart_info.jsp

The ebay auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...144145134&rd=1

This airbrush depot compressor looks to be similar to the Iwata sprint jet but is mounted on a tank:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW

Of course another option is if you can pick up one of the Iwata compressors cheap you could mount it on a tank yourself if your mechanically inclined.

Several options but for the money the Iwata for $290.00 I had originally posted was the best bang for the buck, power and feature wise. Badger also offers it's millair line of compressors (same tech, hermetic compressors) but they are in the 400 - 500 range as well.

I hope this gives you some options that would put you in the comfy range for the pocket book. Keep in mind the small ones like the sprint jet may only be capable of developing 35-40 psi max at best, some even less and having it mounted on a tank is nice. Any hickup in the diaphragm/piston will show up in the brush unless you have a tank. There are a lot of ab'ers that use the likes of the sprint jet little compressors so it's not like they aren't good or anything but a tank is nice. I had a little 1/8th compressor without a tank but didn't like it, inconsistent air and it wasn't exactly silent either but quiet enough that the neighbours in an apartment complex won't hear it, just loud enough to hear in the next room a bit.

okay i just put my first ever coat on this half painted body i recieved with the brush....all thats left now is backing it all. i definently learned from putting this first coat on-its alright tho. hopefully the backing will hide some imperfections.

i have a q- when you back colors do you pick the best color to back all of them or do you kinda back each color with their respective color, and just kinda cover around them or what? hope you can understand what i am asking

It all depends on the effect you want Rub...Different backing produces different results. A flamjob with Yellow and red are backed with white come out more vibrant if you were to back them with blue...It all depends on the effect you want.

I think it depends on what you are painting. If you can follow the golden rule of dark-light backing each color won't be as big a deal. If your design forces you to go light-dark, back each color. You still have to be careful because certain colors will still change your outcome no matter which way you paint. I paint arse-backwards so I back everything

Usually I back each color individually. I don't always paint dark to light, so I back every color with silver, white, or both to keep the other colors from showing through.

Sears has a 1.5 gal pancake tank compressor that runs at 70dB. It was on sale for 99.00 until yesterday. Regular price is 189 I think. Check out the link in one of the other threads.
